In the desert, humans reside inside their homes, fans and air conditioning struggling to maintain a zone of comfort, while everything else is outside. The curiosity of the desert's life is held in check by solid walls, locked doors, and windows. It is an acceptable détente, between the world inside the barriers of wood, brick, and mortar, and the world outside, enabling humans to happily coexist with the desert dwellers. They rest in the knowledge of who they are and what they are capable of, for the humans were the superior species, top of the food chain. Dominant. And nothing in this world could dislodge them from their rightful standing.
Humans are unrivaled and safe, giving little thought to what goes creeping the night on the desert floor. They are safe in their little castles. Or so they believe.
