Five years ago, twenty-three-year-old panther shifter Sera Czedar left her home and her newly mated groom in a humiliating position after a mating ceremony gone wrong. She built a new life for herself in Varselles, the City of Outcasts where shifters exiled from their clans in the Seven Kingdoms can go for sanctuary.
Five years ago, panther shifter Levian Grayson was abandoned on the bonding bed by his bride, Sera. After years of tracking her, he arrives in Varselles, intent on staking his claim on her once and for all, even if it means hauling her over his shoulder just to make sure that happens.
Sera has always known her homecoming would eventually catch up with her one day. The one thing she can’t bear to do is hurt Levian, which will happen as soon as he finds out the reason she left him. Is she ready to take that path? Most of all, will Levian still want her when the truth comes out?

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.(Lovers of Paranormal) 5 years ago, Sera suddenly left after her mating ceremony. Now her mate is going to bring her back. Homecoming was short, but still nicely written and definitely exiting! I love how both Levian's and Sera's conflicting emotions are described and how they act with each other, even though it might be sometimes kind of intense.(LOL) That's something most shapeshifter novels (especially werewolves and all pack races) have in common with their tight hierarchy and so on. So it didn't bother me and definitely didn't ruin the story. I really enjoyed how in Cloaked Devices a lot of genres are mixed together. Due to an accident in World War 2, earth was destroyed and almost all humans are death. Now only shapeshifters and some humans, who could be saved and have magical powers now, life in another world/parallel world (I'm not that sure about that one, since it was only mentioned once or twice). I love how dystopian and magical elements were mixed together. :) Although I really enjoyed Homecoming I'm a little bit confused about the way the books are counted in this series. Homecoming is supposed to be a minor side story, since it's only 0.5 (And those are most of the times not really important), but in my opinion one shouldn't miss reading this novel first, before starting with Cloaked Devices book 1. A lot of the information that were given here seemed important to me and could have as well been the start of Book 1, but as I don't know how this series will continue, I might be wrong and Homecoming might only be a nice side story after all.
Homecoming (Cloaked Devices 0.5) by Cecilia Robert 4 if 5 Stars Wanting to hide a secret, Sera Czedar, a twenty-three-year-old panther shifter ran away from home after her mating ceremony. Five years later, she has made a life for herself as a part owner of a book store in Varselles. She is also a feared fighter in the rings; a much different person then the girl who left her home all those years ago. Beta, Levian Grayson, has been grieving the loss of his mate, Sera. After five years, he found a lead to her whereabouts. She has been spotted in Versalles, a town where the roughest shifter outcast live. He sets out for Versalles with plans to bring her home, whether she wants to or not. I enjoyed Homecoming. It is a quick book to read at 121 eBook pages. The Steampunk element made it different than most shifter novels. It also has some interesting surprises. Cecilia Robert did a great job in the character development. She did an admirable job showing how the characters changed as a result of Sera’s abandoning her clan. Homecoming formed an intriguing setting for the Cloaked Devices series. I look forward to Rise Book One in the series to be released in 2014. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
I received a ARC copy from NetGalley. Homecoming is an interesting blend of paranormal romance and steampunk. I will admit the first thing that attracted me to this book was the stunning cover. I knew I had to find out more about it. I was not disappointed. This is my first time reading a book written by Cecilia Robert, but it will not be my last. Sera Czedar, a twenty-three year old panther shifter, has been living an obscure life in a dangerous city full of outcasts. She left her home and her mate, Levian Grayson, five years ago, because she was hiding a secret that could ruin her life. Levian has finally tracked down Sera, and he is willing to do what it takes to bring her home. Will Sera's secret destroy her mate and the life they could have? Will love prevail? Sera is a spunky kick-ass heroine. She may have ran from her problems in the past, but she is willing to stand up and take responsibility for her actions now. No matter what the cost maybe. Levian is just yummy! He loves Sera and will fight to get her back. You got to love that in a man! This book hooked me from the very beginning and I did not want it to end. I am looking forward to the next installment.
Let me start by saying I never give novella’s 4 stars and I rarely enjoy novella’s tied to series. Their length tends to keep it from being a full story and instead making them filler, there are usually cliffhangers, and there tend to be more questions created instead of answers given. This novella did none of that. The epilogue was a paragraph and it clearly explained the world and the beings that live in it. The story itself reiterated the information and added more details. I love the world that was built, an alternate universe inhabited by shifters that took in humans after we destroyed earth during WW2. Yes. Levian is heartbroken and determined. He is all alpha male, with a sensitive side. Sera is strong and resourceful. The leads are only 23 and they have already committed to be mates, five years ago, yet have not consummated their relationship. Talk about sexual tension. Also Sera and Levian’s brother Tegue royally screwed up, but their faults were not swept under the rug and magically resolved. The characters truly began to deal with the consequences of their actions. They expressed the hurt and betrayal that was felt. They acknowledged the wrongs that were done. And they only scratched the surface, there is still so much to resolve. The drama is of soap opera epic proportions. And to top it all off as steamy as things got, there still wasn’t any actual sex. I am so on board for this series. I have no idea who it will follow, and I don’t care. Even though a lot was explained about this world and issues have begun to be worked out there is still a ton of stuff left to reveal. As long as this series maintains this level of drama I am in.
