Good story but I likes the others much better.

This is the fourth installment in the Cupcake series and features two new characters, Honey and Dylan. As always, Donna Kaufman imbues their story with rich details and an interesting story line. It's a fun and sexy read, filled with the characters and places we've come to know in the other Cupcake books. I want to buy a summer house on Sugarberry Island just so I can go visit with them all!

I am a huge fan of Donna Kauffman and have read all of her books. I was thrilled when this one came out, but have been so disappointed. It is such a slow read and definitely not one of my favorites

I love the Cupcake series books. Sugarberry Island is a place I would want to visit. This story is about Honey Pie and Dylan. They are both very withdrawn people for their own reasons. Honey Pie decides she has had enough of living without friends in her life. One of the first people she meets is Dylan. Dylan is content living his secluded life, but something about Honey Pie just draws him in. Going through their journey was sweet, sexy and emotional. All of your favorite characters make appearances and it left me wanting to read the next book in the series. Get this book...you will not be disappointed.

Reviewed by Karen Pirnot for Readers' Favorite Donna Kauffman's latest edition of the Cupcake Club series is Honey Pie, a book about two seeming misfits who find one another. Honey has come from Oregon, following the death of her Aunt Bea whom she loved like a parent. Her old Volkswagen Beetle breaks down and she then becomes acquainted with Dylan, the town misfit. In reality, Dylan had a tough upbringing and has now gotten his life in order. He is almost immediately attracted to the somewhat bohemian Honey and spends a lot of time attempting to deny this attraction. While Dylan goes about getting the car repaired, Honey finds herself liking a town that seems to offer just what she missed in her childhood. This is a cute story but most readers will guess the outcome long before the epilogue. It seems a bit slow out of the starting gate but it is a delightful story which points out the need for second chances and going after what you have wanted and been denied. I liked the character of Dylan, who seemed to have a bit more insight than his counterpoint Honey. He dealt with issues as they came and would be a good role model for young adult males who have been through rough times themselves. The cohesion and acceptance of the small town population is a delight. Honey Pie gives the reader an easy afternoon in a favorite chair while author Kauffman gives us a feeling of good things yet to come.

Two loners are drawn together.  Dylan is a long time resident of Sweetberry and Honey stumbled into town in a broken down VW bug and a dream.  Neither seen what was coming their way.  If they did, both would have run in separate directions.  Honey has taken her Aunt Beavis’ advice; “Love yourself enough to give it a true and honest chance”.  She packs up her VW Bug and travels from Oregon to Georgia only to find her dreams crushed.  The new start she was promised has a great big road block set in her way.  The apartment and new shop she has planned to open has been leased from under her.  Though she now owned the property, her hands are tied.  Now thousands away from her safe haven, she is homeless, carless, jobless and clueless to where to start.   Dylan is not a stranger to turmoil.  Father, uncle and brother were all negative components in Dylan’s live and after ten years of freedom from the chaos, he doesn’t desire the pull that a certain Ms. Honey has on him.  With her odd behavior and personal life in a mess, he does his best to stay away, but not for long. Usually Sweetberry residents are more involved in the formation of budding of romance, but this time Honey and Dylan found it themselves.  Each are alone and prefer it that way.  One wants to come out and finally get involved in life and the other would rather stay hidden and not deal with the BS of people.  They see their similarities and there is a special draw to each other.  With a little personal work and enlightenment they have the potential of something great.  Honey Pie is one sweet treat! I really loved the feeling of this book.  Even though the potential of drama was high, Ms. Kauffman thankfully didn’t go down this road.  Yes, there was drama, but it had a natural feeling to it.  Both of these characters had some major baggage, but once their minor hurdles where conquered they accepted their fate.  Throw in a few insecurities and a sweet love story was told. Personally, I think if you read Honey Pie as a standalone you wouldn’t like it as much as a series novel.  The story alone wouldn’t have been as fun without the background of the other characters.  Even though they took the third row of back seats in the party van, knowing their stories made little things more special.   The Cupcake Club series is great and simply delightful.  Sweet romance, light humor and a feeling of community that makes you want to join the fun.  I have enjoyed every one of these novels and I can’t wait for the next installment.

Honey D’Amourvell is looking for a fresh start. When her aunt dies, leaving Honey her shop on Sugarberry Island, Honey picks up and moves across the country in the hopes of opening her own shop, becoming a part of the island’s community, and maybe, just maybe, finding the sense of belonging she’s always wanted. Unfortunately, Honey’s first day in Sugarberry is anything but sweet. Her car dies just as she gets onto the island and, what’s worse, she discovers that her aunt’s store has been leased to the owners of Babycakes and has been turned into a cupcake shop. Part of Honey wants to turn tail and run back to where she came from, but at the moment she’s trapped. Her luck begins to change when sexy mechanic Dylan Ross takes it upon himself to help her. As Honey begins to venture out of her self-induced isolation she finds that maybe she can have it all; a home, friends, a store, and even the love of one gorgeous, kindhearted mechanic. Small town charm combined with endearing protagonists and a pitch-perfect romance makes Honey Pie an irresistible read. Donna Kauffman made me want to pick up and move to Sugarberry Island… But only if there’s a hero like Dylan waiting for me at the end of the journey ;) Honey just about broke my heart. She’s a lovely person with a lot to offer, but she has a psychic gift which makes it nearly impossible for her to get close to people. She desperately wants to make friends and be a part of Sugarberry’s community and I wanted that for her. Though Dylan helps her with this in part, it’s Honey’s determination to emerge from her shell that gets her what she wants. And speaking of Dylan… Wow! He’s pretty much the perfect hero — generous, kind, and so sexy he’ll make you melt faster than chocolate on a hot summer’s day. There’s nothing not to love about Dylan. As a couple, he and Honey are fantastic and their love story makes me smile just thinking about it. Honey Pie is the fourth book in the Cupcake Club series but it can easily be read as a standalone. The heroines from the first three books play at least a small role in Honey Pie, something that should please readers who’ve already enjoyed Sugar Rush, Sweet Stuff, and Babycakes. I started the Cupcake Club series with Honey Pie, but by the time I finished the book I was adding the rest of the series to my wish list. Honey Pie is an engaging, sweet story and I hope Ms. Kauffman has plans to write more Cupcake Club books. Kimberly Review courtesy of Wit and Sin

The next morning was dark and foggy. Rainbow Dash woke up at the sound of knives being sharpened near her esr. She rubbed her eyes and looked at what was making the noise. "Applejack, where the hay did you get all these knives?!?" She asked, sounding suspicious and frightened. "Oh, nowhere," Applejack lied, then turned to face Dash. Her eyes glowed blood red. "Now, how 'bout we say we have some more of those delicious apples," AJ said, bitter sweetness sapping her voice. "Um, no thanks, AJ," Rainbow said, backing away slightly. "I-I'm not that hungry right n-n-now." "Eat the bucking apple!" AJ snapped, stuffing an apple in her face and pointing a knife at her. "I don't want to!" Rainbow yelled, batting the apple out of AJ's hoof. "Fine, don't!" Applejack hissed in anger. "You're going to face the consequences!" She started ganging up on Dash, a knife in her hoof. Rainbow flew upward, and the knife clipped her wing. She screeched and fell from the air. Grabbing a knife herself, she swatted feebily at AJ. AJ came back at her, each blow stronger than before. The room reaked with the stench of blood of both mares as the crimson fluid splattered the walls and ceiling and oozed onto the ground. Dash screeched as Applejack inflicted a gash to her side. Dash only inflicted tiny scratches. Finally, Applejack knocked the knife out of Rainbow's hoof. She started walking toward Dash. She backed up, soon finding herself cornered. "Any last words, Rainbow Crash?" Applejack said with bitter sweetness, using Rainbow's flight school nickname. She was covered in Rainbow's blood and looked menacingly horrifying. Rainbow grabbed a nearby knife and held it bravely in her hoof at the ready. A bloodcurling scream filled the air for the last time that night. (All done! Hope you liked! Please rate and review. I really hope I win.)
