About the Author

Nancy Stewart, B.A. M.Ed., is a teacher, writer, consultant and trainer with over 30 years of experience in working with children and families. She held a national leadership position in the Every Child a Talker programme, and has developed national training materials on pedagogy including the role of the adult in playful teaching and learning. She served as an expert adviser to the Tickell review of the Early Years Foundation Stage, and is experienced in supporting schools, settings, and local authorities in quality improvement. She has taught and led teams across sectors, in schools, children's centres and non-maintained provision, working with children from birth to age 8. She has lectured on foundation degree courses and served as an assessor for Early Years Professional Status. Nancy has also worked in health education, contributed features and a regular column to parenting magazines, and is the author of a book on baby and toddler development. Nancy is an Associate of Early Education.
