Chapter One

My name is Sam and I am shy. Sometimes I am so shy that I feel like I could cry!

I don't like it when the teacher calls on me in class and wants me to talk out loud. What if I say something wrong and everyone laughs?

But Miss Taylor doesn't seem to care about that and makes us answer anyway. Does she know what she's doing to me?

To be honest, I usually get it right, and once I start talking I forget how nervous I was at first. But still, those first few minutes are rough!

Sometimes when the kids at school are playing a game I would like to play I wait for them to invite me to join in. My Dad says this is silly, and that I should just join them if it looks fun. Is he crazy!? How can I just join in if they haven't invited me first?
