Overview

Character to a man is like an operating system to a computer, or the periodic table of the elements to a chemist. Character is the sum of our beliefs, convictions, and values. In other words, character is the lens through which we analyze situations in developing solutions to problems.

This book is written for men who do not like to waste time, who believe that to be a man, boys have to grow up and put away childish things, and who would rather get to the point as quickly as possible, written by a man who does not like to waste time, who believes that to be a man, boys have to grow up and put away childish things, and who would rather get to the point as quickly as possible.

The material in this book is presented directly and bluntly. This is not done to be rude or abrasive, but men should be able to speak pointedly to each other about such a serious topic as character. After 39 years of marriage, 21 years in the Marine Corps, and 9 years on the pastoral staff of a traditional Baptist Church, I have learned a few things about characgter, and I would like to share what I have learned with you. Trust me - I am still working on my character, but I offer the things I have learned to other men who are interested in working on theirs. The pursuit of godly character is a life-long journey. May we all endeavor to keep working and learning.

About the Author

Though a native of Mississippi, Robert has spent most of the past forty years working through the United States and Asia. He is a musician by trade with a Bachelor of Music in Performance/Trombone-Delta State University, Cleveland, MS, and a Master of Arts in Composition-George Mason University, Fairfax, VA. He is also a career Marine, a conductor of Marine Corps Bands, retiring in 2002 as a Chief Warrant Officer-4. Robert and his wife, Pam, have two children, Carla and Robby, and three exceptionally cool grandchildren, Braden, Ainsley, and Jace. After the Marine Corps, Robert served as the Orchestra Director at Spotswood Baptist Church, Fredericksburg, VA.

The greatest part of his life is something he did not do, but rather, was done for him. To have sins forgiven, to be redeemed and reconciled with Almighty God, and adopted into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is something that cannot be explained and certainly not earned. To be saved by grace and through faith is nothing short of amazing. I wake up everyday and marvel that a Holy God would love me enough to die for me...but that is exactly what He did. I pray that I will not waste my life, but rather spend it in service to the One who gave Himself for me. This study of character is the result of a humble effort to conform to the image of Christ as told through the Scriptures. May we all put away childish things and be men of godly character.
