Chapter One

FAITH

What is thy source,
When human destinies you direct their course?
Are you of the mind,
The intellect blind, and
You inject your potion
That the intellect
Not conjoin in your intent and machination?
Faith, beholder of human Providential scheme
In your embodiment feel and foster
The lofty beyond mere beliefs dreams you nurture.
Faith, teacher, of the inner and self.
You anoint me the balming rectitude.
You give belief its foundation
And induce belief's strength.
Faith you defy fear and fearsome consequence.

Faith, you, the antithesis of reason
And beguiler of science,
Yet evidence none and unseen
You, Faith, hold me tight
Least the loss to reason's might.
But the substance ingrained of hope
You, instill the ability for me to cope.
When all seems bleak and nothing
Suffice, Faith you rally by my side
And find a solution, place in me to reside.
You give me God, and Divine permanence

You flow in living morality, its essence.
Faith, you are endurance to fortify
My course Divine and righteousness comply.
You extol me of the beyond,
And practiced goodness promises;
You provide me warnings
Of fanaticism excesses.
Faith, you breathe patriotic fervor,
You instill causes and rallies national
You're all, commitment, social, cultural
Faith, you are universal.

Reason is constantly in battle
With you, Faith,
It directs me persistently to hell's gate.
It gives me logic and just cause,
And shows profusely, it's nature's laws.
And observation, reason kin begets me doubts;
It enthralls me reasonably, reason clouts.
Faith, the beholder and chalice for truth,
I drink of you constant and deliberate
My thoughts centered and persistent
My trust in you, Faith spiritual diligent.

HOPE

You give me flowers in desert drought,
And waterless you make notion seeds spout.
When the feel unable to cope
There you are, surfaced a life line, you, Hope.
You dream me dreams and profuse the imagination;
You entice me with aspirations and expectations.
You enthuse me to affix to rewards realization,
You endow me with pride and self determination.
You probe me a constant of my worthiness;
You give me confidence in reality,
And enshrine the support of effort dignity.
You are at my beck and call;
I know of your presence,
I feel your pervasive enthrall.
I might have languished and caught in despair,
But you Hope, reignite in me the faith,
And rally the will for the diffidence to repair.
In my mind, Hope,
Find fixed abode and reside,
Bring forefront your flame, ablaze me inside,
And burn strong, luminously glow bright,
And my path endeavors courageously light.
Never, never, never let me,
You, Hope, lose sight.

ETERNITY

Of what thy make?
Art thou one and same, perpetuity?
Is this semantic of etymological incline?
Or, art thou of the divine?
Is it transgression to inquire of your nature?
Am I to incur the Divine distemper?
Or is this an ego journey to mind clutter
And the pretense of intellectual matter?
And what would it take
The human mind to conceive?
Is the human intellect able,
You, Eternity to perceive?
Would thou defy a definition, Eternity,
Is longevity kindred and infinity?
Is the intellect too physical,
For thy scope to envisage and tarry,
Bedazzled, the mind to apprehend
And for the intellect to design,
The timelessness of you, eternity?
In thy stream and flow
All are carried,
Life and living,
Non life and non living.
There is not a thing
And nothing,
Not a thought,
Not an act

Would bypass your mark.
Art thou all time and more?
The past and before,
The present momentary,
And the future yet to score?
From whence you came
And how far thence to go?
Art thou substance divine?
Art thou beginning-less
And thy destiny endless?
How so long?
Is when applicable,
Now and then?
Einstein had bent time's way,
But who is to say
That theory's practice is not astray?

Art thou the soul's mould?
Or art the soul of thy mould?
Or art thou the seed
That breeds life and all living feed?
Art thou the gestation
Of life's formation
And matter's form?
Art thou the cause original?
And what of the effect
That seems resident in thy perennial?
The elements in thee all tarry,
And in Infinity's womb conjoin and marry,
To birth the living and things all.

All motion thy energy give,
And infuse synergy to all that live.
What thy connection
With infinity's boundless extent?
In infinity's vastness is your resolution?
You give orderliness to infinity's stay,
And all it embraces respond to thy sway.
Infinity seems a speck in thy cast
But in thy travel it tarry its mass.
Ages shall age and expire, it seems,
And humanity shall still inquire,
With all its intellectual beams,
Of what thy origin,
And what hast given thee birth;
And of what thy beginning?
Shall there ever be your ending?
And of how many earths?

FREEDOM

Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!
What is in thee
That beckon all humanity to be free?
Is it the Divine intention
That drives instinctively
For humanity to live freely in comity?
And what of the enterprise
That instills and prod the human bestiality?
Why then some would others not free?
Why would they defy the freedom instinct
When inheres in them thy will?
Why Like the Spartans in History
Their Hundred Three
Their lives sacrificed to thee?
But in their society disciplined
There, others held in slavery?
Is it that governance in democracy
Is freedom polity,
The opportunity to express freely,
Who's to how it be governed in equity?
Why is it that throughout human History
Humankind many, the reality
To enslave others of humanity?

Why the womb carrier, bearer all,
Nature's sublime, the woman falls
Always to man's bestial rapacity?
Why had children born of poverty
Lacks freedom from want
Life in economic disparity?
Why had the past, and present
So replete of religious bigotry?
And men, Socrates, Copernicus,
Galileo and More
Their beliefs espoused
The authorities made sore?
Freedom, thou art beyond liberty,
You are nature's manifest,
The birds and all life your behest,
A peace inner proclivity
You are the essence to human dignity.
Freedom, thou earthly bliss
You encompass and derive happiness.
Of humankind existence,
Freedom, you, the truth physical,
You're bound to the self spiritual.

GOD

Thou, timeless
In Thy timeless beginning
There was no time
In that timelessness
There was no space
And in that spacelessness
There was nothing
And in that nothingness
There is existence of being
Thou art not of the past
Thou art not of the present
And thou art not of the future
Thou art timeless and not
There was Thee, Truth.
Of substance and substanceless
And out of Thee, Truth
Comes everything
The sound of names
Things of forms
And the formless

That expands to infinity
And nothing;
That exists eternally
To timelessness.
Of the now,
the yesterday
and the tomorrow
Thou fill with illusion.
Is everything out of nothing?
Is there not something?
There is only the Truth
Everlastingly.
Every something is lost
In the nothingness
Of Truth.
Everything is Truth
You are the Truth.
In the You, the truth
You find everything.
The Truth is reason.
It is You, knowledge, the knower of timeless seasons.

GRACE

You're divinity benevolence
The Divine's display of care
It's unsolicited blessings
It's God manifest of His ultimate ware.
It's only the Divine to give
Devotion and penance
And Abstinence notwithstanding
It's the Divine nature
Beyond Human understanding.
Pervasive grace is a ready gift
Of Divinity blessedness at call
Devotion due and given
knowledge acquired and striven
All must conform to Divinity's grace;
Absence grace, and all religious endeavor
A waste.
The will commands
And the body demands
But its grace rewards
That humanity look to forward.
All are under the sway
And only the Divine hast
The yay or nay.

GRACE

Grace, Thou Divinity's benevolence,
Under your restrictive divine ambience,
Are seekers of God realization in compliance.
None can come to the Divine's domain
If your induction not concede,
And the Divine, your supplication not heed.
Matters not any scriptural wisdom profound,
Nor the penance any heed compound;
Nor Devoted and true to alms selflessly given,
Sacrifice and detached abundantly striven,
You, Divine Grace, is only the Divine to bestow
And come only to those Divinely chosen.
In faith pure and unrestrained,
With belief uncompromisingly maintained,
God to sinners and saints alike to all,
Give Divine relief withal,
You Grace alone, is God's call;
And enduring, the self realized,
In eternal Bliss enthralled.
Constant to your bidding, feed
In all words, all thoughts and every deed
Divinity practiced care,
Of abstinence, detachment
And non-rewardment alms fare,
With devotion
Of insubstantives and rituals bear,
Grace, you the pervasive, a ready gift
Of Divinity blessedness for every all
Devotion due and given
knowledge acquisition and striven
All must conform to you, divine Grace.
Absence you, Grace, and all at waste,
It is Divinity, Its will bidden.

LEARN IN SILENCE

Let me talk to you,
When my tongue is silent;
Let me show you
The way when I am absent;
Let me listen to your eloquence
Without my ears;
Let me feel your kindnesses
Without your wares.
Teach me to know,
And be humbly wise;
Teach me to give,
And not to advertise;
Teach me patience,
And to live in contentment;
Teach me honesty,
And to be prudent;
Teach me love,
And to be committed;
Teach me to respect,
And to be affective;
Teach me spirituality,
And to be conscious;
Teach me human affinity
And to live in amity.

AIDS

Is today my time to die?
But I am only five?
Is there a chance
I may survive?
Malaria, too, is come anew
Devastating and endemic
But our forefathers and mothers, too
Had lived beyond modernity new.
How now the spread
And so many dead?
I am only five
I want to stay alive
Must too, I die?
My mother knew not
Dad returned sick
And death came quick
And mother too now dead.
And me?
I am only five and the head.
Sad, it is true,
I am last to bed.
There is no one to cry for me
I passed on by unnoticed
Alas! Today, I am not alone
As thousands join me sad
With AIDS, malaria, and hunger bad
No! No! No! No!

It's not your fault;
It's not you to blame
Do not feel any shame.

When you first came,
You brought my ancestors shills
With technology, guns and frills.
Land and man you possessed at will
By droves into mines you sent
To reap harvests of gold,
Copper and diamond, hellbent.
Big cities with high rises you made
And I in the slums reduced
Succumbing to malaria and AIDS.
True. It is true
Malaria was there;
But my people scattered and knew;
And our civilization learned to cope,
But now I live with little hope.
You need not give a helping hand
You may let me be
There's few of you to see
My tragedy beset not
Your conscience
It is not your responsibility
You did not not give me birth
It's not you
Who brought me to earth
No! No! No! No!
It's not your fault

You want to see me well?
You want me out of this hell?
The little gift you sent
has not made a dent
in the suffering of so many?
And your concerns matter little?
You want to see me well?
You want me out of this hell?
Your gift is not too little
No! No! No! No!
It's the price of living;
The opportunity for giving.
You give me hope.
The chance to cope
In a new tomorrow
You gift me life
And my pains ease
In the struggle to breathe
Your gift makes me ease
No!
No!
No!
No!
It is not too little;
It is not too late
You see, my tears dried
Your conscience is tried
And my hunger not satisfied.

ANGER

Anger, where from and how make?
What source body or mind dictate?
Despoiler of peace,
You taint my thoughts with vengeful probe
And draw me ever tighter to calamity abode.
You fill me with animosity
And blind me to reason reality.
In me, you sustain the beast and the brutish
And regrets compel and compromise expel.
To your rage the intellect's advice you profane,
And words to hurt, the tirade pain reign.
Anger, beast, you heed none and chase
Civilities and the mannerly,
They, you curtly waste in haste.
You poison good sense and reason,
And sacrifice relational goodness
To haste and tempestuous contempt.
Anger, your fury knows no limit
You engage in temper flares
And crimes heinous commit.
Are you innate and born to harm?
Or are you coursed into being
Nurture negative in life's experiences?

Are the hurt of depravity
The outlet of harm that tutored
Your onset?
Are there the skills to manage
And control your outburst and spills?
How to instill a calm?
Is the path spiritual a way, a balm?
Is willful suppression,
And conscious peaceful intentions
To positive benign expression
To control your noxious damnation
And inflamed ever harmful aggression?
I know you seethe to destroy
And the body to deploy
and mind's wiles to employ.
But there's no gain
To you, anger's pain.
I must of fortitude the will compose
And the future consequences propose.
I must see the damages you portend
And the strength derive you to avoid,
I must find peace and composure
And prayers and meditations inspire.
I can and must, you, anger, subdue.
Can passion brew be greater
Than the Divine intentions?

AT ST. JUDES

Dearest Cassidy
Four times the trauma
Of a bone marrow transplant
And you hang on God given
You have endured
The treatment St Jude's assured
And your enduring smile
Pains set aside
Now nine
And with intervention divine
Years to come
You'll be fine.
You are strong
God's gift of persistence
In this life's endurance
Earlier when just little
God asked your Mom
Come and join the Angels' clan
And now she is caring
From above
With every passing moment
She showers her love.
You're not alone
Daddy's here too
With St. Jude's caring crew.
They are God's protection
for you.
Dearest little Cassidy
It's God's will
That cancer free
You must be still.
And the care of St. Jude's
His emissaries He provide
Assuredly at St. Jude's
Benignly He resides.

ATTACHMENT

You attach me at birth and before,
You bring me to live expectations;
You bound me to filial patronage,
The returns of the fatherly investments
and the motherly endearments.
You attach me to the familial
Of the siblings brotherly and sisterly,
Of the relatives, Grandpa and Ma,
Of the elders care, your attachments ensnare,
And of later years and spousal demands,
When their roles I assume,
You entrenched me deeper,
To your spreading arms clutches tender.
The mind is enslaved to your love potion;
There is no extricating from you,
Attachment pouring emotion.
You now chain me to relations connections,
And bind me with your compunctions.
You grow upon me things beholden
And needs aside, wants overburden striven.
You scheme me into name and fame
And compel me to achievement claims.
You conspire me to a legacy frame,
And subdue the intellect to your persistent game.
You tie me to cultural traits bent,
And ritualize me to its permanency,
And with religion adds to your conspiracy

Attachment, you now becomes my dependency.
You commit me to superstition's fears,
And instill the future dilemma scare,
If to its stupidity the me not adhere.
Attachment, you fixate me to unknown,
And the unknowable of death, and hope
You seduce to the beyond
And its instructions to cope.
You attach me to the seductive,
And my senses you rein to its rewards,
Of fulfillments of desired possibilities.
And then you turn on me
And impose seduction's impermanence.
Attachment, you chain me constantly to worldly gains,
And compel the reason to accept their pains.
Now you have enslaved the mind
And leave me in your bind and illusions.
I am lost to freedom ways,
And consumed in your perpetual delusions.

Is there a way out of your clutches?
Detachment is your antidote?
To give up all the connections
Of the filial, of the familial
And all material?
Abstinence and penitence?
Selfless service with no intent
No inclination for reward bent?
Is that the path spiritual?

BAD MEMORIES

You've tethered mind
and embodied soul
To the past
and memories old.
The tortuous
and sordid revealed;
The tumultuous
past unconcealed.

There's no good,
Nor peace to remind
Of philandering
and experiences unkind.
That's marriage indulgence,
the makings find.
And you're committed
to tolerance bigoted bind.

You've pledged in sickness,
And too, in health;
In times poor,
and times of wealth,
To stand by his side,
And to abide
In times difficult,
And the karmic tide.

Now years have the divide.
The past long gone
and atoned,
And now
in our lives eventide
Why do succumb to moan?

Of the past we cannot alter
And the recourse not to falter;
The daily amends
are that matter.

There's no good
In the remindfulness
Of ones evil's ways.
The physical permits
not the sways;
Contentment with peace,
Will bring joyous bliss.
In the remaining years,
It'll hold the promise
Original, for us to exist.
And as the years
are shredded,
The bad memories,
waste and cast,
Will find, no longer,
The memory, a repast.
