Is it always this complicated?

Tara, 31-year-old dreamer, amateur photographer and waitress, has always had a difficult relationship with her ambitious mother. Unlike her successful sisters she's never achieved much, but she's comfortable in her role as the smart-mouthed black-sheep of the family.

But following their mother's unexpected death, when Tara and her sisters attend the will reading they're shocked to discover the extent of their mother's determination to control and manipulate her daughters.

Tara is furious: she knows the bizarre condition in her mother's will is meant for her. She's never seriously considered the question of motherhood and her boyfriend Aidan isn't very keen on the idea. But there's a lot of money at stake...

Over the next 12 months, Tara struggles with sibling coercion, an increasingly distant boyfriend - and the confusing relationship she has with Luis, the wealthy art dealer who's more than happy to help her fulfil the condition in the will.

Her life becomes increasingly complicated as she's forced to confront the big question that every woman asks at some point in their life: do I want to be a mother?

About the Author

Fi Whyms has lived in a 15th century château in SW France for many years and is still discovering fuse-boxes she wasn't previously aware of.  She shares her home with her husband, five cats, seven chickens, several generations of barn owls and a slightly obese family of hedgehogs. She is also a keen horsewoman (albeit with no sense of direction) and spends many hours on horseback lost in the Cognac vineyards of rural France. Before coming to live in France she worked in London as an M&A lawyer, and is therefore especially qualified to speak on the subject of sociopaths and investment bankers.
