CHAPTER 1
Down in the park on a hot summer's day, everyone was happily out at play. Walter Wasp hovered between a birch and a beech, listening to his cousin Horace Hornet's loud speech.
Leaning next to a 'Lost' poster, Horace was being a bit of a boaster. He bragged of defending his home and his hive along with another ferocious five. And of all the frightened creatures he'd seen, as he flashed his black and yellow stripes, while looking after his queen.
Horace made a cabbageworm squirm and said he'd been very firm whenever anyone had dared to come near. He'd seen their fear, and it was very clear that if he made his sting go ping!, everyone would bow, to him as if he were King.
Walter Wasp was most impressed but thought it time to be buzzing back to his nest. Then he mischievously thought that for fun, wouldn't it be great to scare everyone?
Fetching and bounding all over the park was a great big dog with a very loud bark. Walter flexed his stinger and puffed out his chest and flew off towards the dog with his new quest.
Swooping and diving around the playful dog's head, very soon Walter could see the animal was filled with dread. Round and round him he whirred, until he saw the dog was shaken and stirred.
Delighted to see the reaction he wanted, Walter Wasp then cheekily taunted, 'I made you flee, I made you see, you are afraid of me!
After the dog came a hedgehog, scraping and scratching next to a log. Swooping and diving around her tiny head, soon Walter could see she was filled with dread.
Round and round her he whirred, until he saw the hedgehog was shaken and stirred.
Delighted to see the reaction he wanted, Walter Wasp again cheekily taunted: 'I made you flee, I made you see, you are afraid of me!'
After the hedgehog came a frog, huffing and puffing while out for a jog. Swooping and diving around the frog's head, soon Walter could see he was filled with dread.
Round and round him he whirred, until he saw the frog was shaken and stirred.
Delighted to see the reaction he wanted, Walter Wasp once again cheekily taunted: 'I made you flee, I made you see, you are afraid of me!'
