About the Author

James Kochalka is, without question, one of the most unique and prolific alternative cartoonists working in America today. His comics have been published internationally by almost every alternative comics publisher; he's recorded several music albums under the name James Kochalka Superstar (making him a favorite at college radio stations across the country); and he's developed animated cartoons for Nickelodeon and Cartoon Hangover.

He is the first official Cartoonist Laureate of the state of Vermont, appointed in 2011.

Among his best known works are the Monkey vs Robot series, the beloved Johnny Boo and Dragon Puncher series for children, and his magnum opus, the decade-plus span of daily diary comics known as American Elf. James lives in Burlington, Vermont with his wife, Amy; their two sons; and their cats, all of whom appear frequently in his comics.

This story is about a pair of ghost friends who start out looking at the twinkling stars. Then Squiggle the smaller ghost swoops through the air and flips Johnny Boos hair do and falls to the ground laughing. Johnny Boo shows Squiggle his ¿Boo Power¿. Squiggle decides he wants ¿Twinkle Power¿ so he goes up to space to talk to the stars. Johnny Boo is alone and gets scared in the dark and ¿eeks¿ when the Ice Cream Monster comes by. Johnny tries to cover up the ¿eek¿ by telling the Ice Cream Monster it¿s his new kind of scare. Squiggle comes to help Johnny and they decide to teach each other ¿Boo Power¿ and ¿Squiggle Power¿. The Ice Cream Monster tries it and starts Wiggling.I didn¿t like this book at all. It was pointless and none of it connected. Johnny Boo was conceited and thought he was better than everyone else. The pictures were interesting but that was it.1. This book could be used as an example of how graphic novels are arranged and used to start their own story.2. Could be used in a book study to learn about the different kinds of books available.
