Rating: 5++ Stars Officially, this is the darkest book I've ever read! Upon finishing this book, I put down my reader and just stared at it for a good while. I was not really in the mood to read anything else right away. I needed to read something light after this book. Seriously, the story was mind blowing! This is the prologue which covers the relationship between Aaron's parents, (Joseph and Arianna), how 'The Estate' came into existence, Joseph's madness, Aaron's birth and the incident in which Xander comes to live at 'The Estate', and other relevant events. Let me just say, the writing/story telling was phenomenal! It was as though this book existed before 'Madeline's Abduction'. I mean everything was explained in such a good way that did not leave any questions from me. It gave me all the pieces I needed (and some pieces that are burned in my memory) in order to tie the story together. I wanted to go right into reading book 3, "Hope Restrained", but I needed to get my emotions in check. I'll have to read some lightweight books and then continue this very emotional, raw, edgy series (just the way I like it). Rocked!!

WHERE CALEB & LIVVIE FOUND LOVE IN CAPTIVE IN THE DARK, JOSEPH WILL FIND KARMA BRINGING HIM A DARK HORSE INSTEAD OF UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! What happens when you realize that you are not going to get the perfect fairy-tale with a castle every little girl dreams of, but a nightmare you cannot wake up from realizing it is compound of hell?  “There’s a fine line between many things; love and hate, light and dark, brilliance and madness. Much like when the sun rises, the light it gives still touches on the darkness that it destroys. And it’s in that place, the moment between sunrise and day and sunset and night, that is the scariest of all, because they are so closely linked that one cannot always be distinguished from the other." Joseph Fallen is the prequel novel for Madeleine Abducted, the first novel in The Estate series by M.S. Willis. Joseph and Anna Carmichael were the perfect couple with a love so grand that other couples were envious of having. At twenty-three years old, Joseph excelled in graduating early and becoming the top-seat executive where he accepted his first job. Not only was he handsome, charming, a genius, but his wife, Arianna, was the woman who could lift his spirits anytime. Arianna’s beauty and soul was a drug to Joseph, because the love he felt for her was so pure that only she could ease his magnificent mind. Arianna grew up by her deceased parents to hold love as the most valuable gift. Joseph also pours his heart to Arianna by never keeping his feelings for Arianna a secret since the first day he met her. Joseph now had the wife of his dreams, but he wanted to provide her to have a large mansion, a lavish lifestyle, and many children. Unfortunately, Arianna was finding out she was difficulties getting pregnant but Joseph was so supportive. Over the years, Joseph had become so powerful taking over different criminal organizations and dividing them into smaller units calling them “The Estate.” Joseph managed both his business and personal life at the mansion he had bought for his wife. The west wing was for his business and the east wing would be his residence, so he could be closer to home but Arianna saw Joseph keeping longer nights and days away from her and felt he was darker with activities. Connor worked for Joseph to supervise the operations of the network during the times Joseph was with his wife. Connor was intelligent, a lethal killer, and assigned to keep watch over her by her husband, but Arianna saw and felt something different about Connor.  Life may have not been what Arianna had hoped for, but the man she married change so much to cause her emotional and physical harm? Will Arianna ever be able to give Joseph the child he yearns for since their wedding night? Should Arianna feel threaten by Connor or does she something under his demon mask? Joseph Fallen is not fairy-tale love story, but the story how Joseph fell in a place of darkness where light and beauty cannot overcome the reigns of a sadistic lunatic. There is more to come from M.S. Willis and I can wait to find out what will happen next at The Estate, because she is currently writing the second novel in the series, Hope Restrained. I also highly recommend reading the first novel in The Estate series, Madeleine Abducted. I rate M.S. Willis’s prequel novel in The Estate series, Joseph Fallen - 5 AMAZING STARS!

After reading Madeleine Abducted, I was hesitant to read this book because I didn’t want to feel badly for Joseph. I was afraid that by learning about the events which created the madman that I would come to understand him and ultimately forgive him for the sins he committed. It turns out that that was an entirely unwarranted worry. By the time Ms. Willis finishes detailing Joseph’s spiral into madness, I actually hated him more than I did when I finished Madeleine Abducted.  As Joseph Fallen is the story of Joseph Carmichael’s descent from a respectable business man to the depraved leader of The Estate, this is a dark read and contains numerous acts that some readers will find disturbing. Having read book one first, I was prepared for most of them, or at least I thought I was. The scene in which we see Xander’s arrival at The Estate freaked me out until I realized it was Xander. Despite what I already knew about Joseph’s predilections and insanity, what made the book truly horrifying was that everything Arianna suffered was at the hands of her husband – the man who was supposed to love, honor, and protect her, yet he became her abuser. But even knowing that there was no happy ending for Arianna and Joseph and suspecting that her husband was behind her departure from their son Aaron’s life, I was still shocked by what actually happened to her. My only regret was that she wasn’t able to reveal Emory’s duplicity.  Although Joseph Fallen is the prequel to The Estate series, I recommend reading it after reading Madeleine Abducted. Had I been privy to all of the knowledge that I gained from this book prior to reading Madeleine Abducted I think it would have actually diminished its impact. As much as I enjoy Ms. Willis’s style of writing, this is a book that I will not reread simply because I cannot bear witness again to all that Arianna endured, hence the 4-star rating. However, I have added Hope Restrained to my wishlist in hopes that I can read it soon as I look forward to visiting The Estate again – hopefully sans Joseph Carmichael.  I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.  Reviewed by Angela at Crystal's Many Reviewers!

Omg! What the hell did I just read? This was so dark and so brutal. I'm just shocked.. I cried, UGLY CRIED! I knew the ending was going to kill me but damn if I was still not prepared. I hate Joseph with a passion that I have never hated another male lead chacter. He disgusted me. Now, saying all that, I FREAKIN LOVED this book. It was dark and gritty. It was brutal and at times sickining. Joseph was a monster, where as Arianna was an angel. If you love dark reads, this one is one of the best I've ever had the pleasure of reading. The story line was amazing and so original. I highly recommend to all my dark book lover friends. My heart was filled with joy in the beginning and slowly but surely ripped apart. AND I LOVED EVERY SECCOND OF IT!

Although the books don't have to be read in any particular order This book definitely gives you the base for the series. It was a good series but wasn't my favorite kind of reading. Yes I did read them all because I was hooked. M. S. Willis is a wonderful author.

As usual, MS Willis didn't let me down... In fact, this just might have to be one of my favorite books of hers so far. I will say the first part almost made me put it down. It was so over the top lovey dovey and I wanted to puke ( I can't stand that crap LOL) but a friend who had read the book already told me that I had to keep going... So I did. BOY am I glad I did!!!!  I'm trying to write this without any spoilers... and for once, I'm having a super hard time. Because lets just say I fell in love and then I bawled. And not just the swipe away a tear type cry, but literally the only book I've EVER had to put down because I was crying so hard.  It's not happy. It's not beautiful but it's a dark story that tore my heart out and stomped all over it unlike any other I've read (and that's saying a lot since I love my dark stories).  5 HUGE FREAKING STARS

To me, there is nothing scarier than a smart criminal. They are the worse kind because they think everything through and when they act you know it’s because they have thought everything through. Every step of the way. I mean seriously, that’s just scary. Add onto that, the normal guy who just wants the best for him and his new wife. Joseph is willing to do whatever it takes to get to the top without realizing the consequences of his actions. All that Arianna wants is to be happy, and she is that with Joseph. She doesn’t need all the fancy things that he thinks they need, nor does she want them. But as the time goes by she realizes she is caught with no chance of escaping. I normally do not read the dark romances, they are not for me. And actually I don’t really know how this one can be considered a romance because of everything that happens in the story. I will say this though; you do need to heed the warning because if you are faint of heart, you will not be able to read this book. There are some very graphic scenes that happen and they will make you cringe. At least they did with me. I did enjoy this book because even though we knew in Madeliene Abducted that Joseph was twisted, and it was great to see how it happened. I really liked how it was such a gradual change, M.S. certainly didn’t rush the switch which I think just added more to the story than anything else. If the story would have been rushed, I think it wouldn’t have worked out the way that it did. I think that M.S. completely stepped out of the shadow of her Control Series and was able to show us how she is able to switch genres and still be able to write a great story. *Received an ARC for honest review*
