Jumpy - The Story of a Scared Puppy

"Jumpy, the Story of a Scared Puppy," is the picture book story of a puppy who is very often scared and afraid of loud noises, strange people, and new experiences. He jumps and runs under his bed as fast as a bullet. Well, almost that fast.

One day his friend, Mr. Turtle, shows up and explains how he remains so calm and confident in scary and stressful situations. How does Jumpy react to Mr. Turtle's advice? Is his fear diminished and his confidence ramped up?

All is revealed in these short and easy "Read-along" pages with colorful and fanciful pictures that young kids, parents, and grandparents will enjoy -- particularly if they have a love of animals and nature. There's a dash of humor thrown in, too!

About the Author

Philip is a former newspaper reporter, advertising salesman, and specialty newspaper publisher (antiques) turned book writer. Words and he have a history, and they've been on and off, hot and cold. They've had break-ups and make-ups. During all this, he's lived in Seagrove, Wilmington, Robbins, Raleigh, and Greensboro, all North Carolina towns, in that order. Then, being still young and dumb, and feeling practically invincible, he tried Richmond, VA, Phoenix, AZ, and Hot Lanta, Georgia, called Atlanta by some folks. Now, he's landed in Florida, close to a mouse with big ears.

He will read most any book EXCEPT fiction, including encyclopedias and dictionaries (well, a page or two every few years). That's a pity because multitudes love fiction and it's where the big money is, and he should be reading it to learn how to write it. That's okay, though, because enough money is enough when you really think about it.

Biographies, adventure stories, how-tos, histories, and art books stay the longest in his forever evolving bookcases scattered through most every room in his home. He has a dozen bookcases of all varieties and size; a couple came from big box office supply stores but most came from local thrift shops, which he haunts weekly in search of old and rare books.

He has lost and regained the same ten to fifteen pounds at least a dozen times during his life. He has a cat named Fraidycat who he believes was a human in an earlier existence.
