On a snowy morning, Kinsley and her furry best friend Muffin awaken to a strange noise—the banging of broken shutters on the old shed. It alerts them that the double doors are flung open wide.
During the night an intruder has stolen a valuable family treasure—a famous 1928 Model A Ford they fondly named Betty Boop.
Why did he steal it?
The mystery deepens as Kinsley, along with her aunt and Muffin, team up with a quirky investigator to find the culprit. Yet all clues lead to a dead end.

But hope returns. They find a strange clue left by the thief. A dealer in antiques says it's more valuable than the missing car. They now have a rare bargaining tool.
But even if they locate the thief, will he take the bait and negotiate?

DOROTHY DOZIER ALLEN lives in a big pink house on a wooded hillside surrounded by longleaf pines. Her backyard is home to fluffy-tailed rabbits, squawking birds, scampering squirrels and occasional deer nibbling green grass. Near sundown she is greeted by soft hoots from an owl named Webster. Also, a noisy woodpecker makes its home in a dead tree among oaks, pines and azaleas.
