Overview

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving

"Time hasn't dulled the suspense and humor of Irving's chilling tale....The added treat here is the inviting art of Will Moses." --Parents' Choice

Told true to the original, the tale of the Headless Horseman and his effect on Ichabod Crane is enhanced by brooding, fitting folk-art illustrations.

"Will Moses, the great-grandson of Grandma Moses, has illuminated the original with a fluent retelling and handsome illustrations in an eminently suitable folk-art style....The dynamic full-color illustrations make the book spectacular....Simply splendid!" --The Horn Book, starred review

"The text is lively and compelling [and] the primitive paintings enhance the Hudson Valley setting." --School Library Journal

About the Author

Washington Irving, one of the first American authors to earn his living from writing, was born in 1783 and died in 1859.

Painting is as much a part of the Moses family tradition as the family homestead in Eagle Bridge, New York. There Will Moses has painted since he was a little boy, learning firsthand from his grandfather, folk artist Forrest Moses, who learned from his mother, Anna Mary Robertson Moses, better known as Grandma Moses. Developing his own folk style, Will has become an internationally beloved artist in his own right, his work displayed in collections throughout the world, including that of the White House. His folk art can also be found in such books as The Night Before Christmas, Will Moses' Mother Goose, and Mary and Her Little Lamb

A great story especially for the autumn season, but unfortunately, the pictures are missing from my Nook Color version. Disappointing since I would have loved to see them and they are the reason I bought this edition.
