About the Author

David Alexander is a fourth generation Texan who grew up on the banks of the Colorado River outside of Austin, Texas. He is a graduate of Del Valle High School and Sul Ross State University. David joined the U.S. Border Patrol at the age of twenty-four and was stationed in Sierra Blanca, Texas.

David transferred from Sierra Blanca, Texas to Brackettville, Texas in 1983 where he spent almost twelve years. In 1995 he was promoted to Assistant Chief Patrol Agent as the Director of the National Canine Facility in El Paso, Texas. He was then selected as an Assistant Chief Patrol Agent for the Border Patrol Special Coordination Center where his duties included coordination and liaison with military units supporting operations on the U.S. borders and supervision of a national intelligence unit. David returned to Brackettville, Texas and the field work he so loved as the Patrol Agent In Charge in 2000. He remained in that position, tracking whenever he could, until retirement from the Department of Homeland Security in 2006.

During his tenure in the U.S. Border Patrol, he experienced almost every duty that an agent could be assigned. He arrested drug smugglers, alien smugglers, and numerous violators of other state and federal laws.

He worked the Rio Grande River, industries, highways, freight trains, and tracked groups from daylight till dark more times than he can remember.

His most fond memories are of working with the canine program and tracking smuggling groups.

From 2006 to 2010, David was an instructor for the U.S. Border Patrol at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, New Lines in the Sand

Mexico, instructing trainee agents in Border Patrol operational courses and law. He now considers New Mexico home and spends his off-duty time riding his motorcycle through the mountains, playing in a country music band, and writing.
