Learning to think beyond the obvious is an important part of the educational experience. We look at a picture or see the object in real life and we think, if we think beyond the fact that the object is an animal, a rock, or a star, "How pretty" or "How nice." In Living Things and NonLiving Things the author takes the reader on a deeper plunge into looking at the world around him. What is a living thing? What is a nonliving thing? How do we determine them? Thinking beyond the fact that what is man-made is nonliving and what is breathing is living. Wow! This introduction or journey into the world of comparing and contrasting is fantastic! And then in the back of this Arbordale publication is a great selection of "For Creative Minds" pages with additional material and exercises. Easy to read. Great pictures. Can be understood on an elementary level but promotes more complex thinking into the comparisons of living and nonliving things and their attributes. This is one that I can highly recommend for homeschoolers, classrooms, and libraries everywhere! DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy from Arbordale Publishing to facilitate this review.
