Longinus On the Sublime in Zachary Pearce's Latin Translation
Here is most of the Latin text of the third edition (1762) of Zachary Pearce's translation of Longinus's On the Sublime, one of the most famous works of ancient aesthetics and literary appreciation. Its author most probably lived in the first century CE, and there is considerable doubt about his identity. This translation provides not only an example of eighteenth-century neo-Latin composition, but a way for Latin readers to incorporate highly interesting and valuable material into their course of studies.
