Lost the Plot: Finding Our Story in a Confusing World
How do we make sense of life? What's our identity? Mixing memoir with theological and philosophical reflections, author David Wisener explores his struggle to understand God's love and acceptance in his heart and how to find his place in the world when life didn't go according to plan. Exploring the postmodern critique that we live our lives according to stories, Lost the Plot helps us realize how many of the stories we cling to aren't part of God's Story. Weaving deeply personal experiences of shattered dreams, bouts of depression, and disillusionment with the church, the book also explores concepts like perception, reality, and love, offering unique insight into the struggles and questions we face in understanding what life is about and what it means to be human.

What People are Saying About This

From the Publisher

Lost the Plot is the antidote to books by authors bragging about their accomplishments and claiming to have everything figured out. David Wisener writes with vulnerability as he shares gripping stories of challenges and mistakes in his own life. His personal and theological reflections resonate with readers as we consider how our stories connect with God’s ultimate story for redemption and healing from our world’s brokenness.”

—Jeff Finley, executive editor, Light + Life Magazine

“David Wisener uses deep self-reflection and the power of personal testimony to provoke the mind while stirring the soul about the nature of the Father’s love for us. In Lost the Plot, Wisener serves as a worthy travel companion on our own journey of inner healing and discovery of just how loved we really are.”

—Chris Montgomery, senior pastor, Frazer Church

“We all live in stories, and in fact each of us is a story. How can we understand this and discover the joy of living inside the greatest of all stories: The gospel of Jesus and the kingdom of God? Through his own story, David Wisener shows the way. God can use this book to help you find the same truth and joy the earliest Christians discovered: The Way, the trail of truth that leads to life.”

—Howard A. Snyder, author of The Problem of Wineskins: Church Structure in a Technological Age
