Trying to clear my head, I wander off the path a bit to explore the surrounding area. There aren't a lot of fences up, which means I have the benefit of the doubt when it comes to trespassing. There are a couple of cute shallow creeks that wind through the dense greenery, and I absentmindedly follow one upstream.
There's a sudden commotion in the bushes, and a red fox shoots out, running straight through the little river and getting its fur and tail all wet.
"What the hell scares a fox?" I wonder aloud.
I look up from watching the soaked fox, and I see the shadow of something a lot bigger crouched in the bushes. I take a step back, remembering the list of wild animals I read about being in this area. There's a dense cover of bushes around an old tree, and whatever scared the fox seems to still be in there.
A low, rumbling growl chills me to the bone, and the bushes shudder again as whatever's hiding becomes more agitated.
