I'm a bit out of season but I really wanted to read this Christmas novella. Our hero, Matt works at the Skipper, a bar the Portland ME series is centered around. He's driving a long way to go pick up his sister from their extremely, religious parents who are trying to marry her off to a much, older man from the church. On his way, fate has him running into single mom, Tana and her 3 year old daughter Flynn when they need him the most. It's a heartwarming tale of instant love from a couple who thought love wasn't in the cards for them. Matt is a very protective and thoughtful hero. Tana is a strong, independent woman who didn't know how much she was missing until Matt came into her life. Then you have this adorable 3 year old girl who instantly bonds with Matt and will make your heart melt.

A chance meeting. More serendipitous moments and these two are head over heels!! Add in a gorgeous toddler, and I am won over. I like that these two are older and go through so much, but are committed. Flynn won my heart!! a beautiful story about finding love in unexpected places and taking a chance!!

Lullay ( A Portland ME Christmas Novella) By Freya Barker This was a sweet little story. It is one of those random, chance encounters. Neither one was looking for a partner or a spouse, but they found each other. Matt is going back to his childhood home to get his sister from their parents home. He comes from a very religious family. She needs to leave because her parents are marrying her to a way older man who is the minister of their church. He makes his way from Maine to past Duluth, MN. Montana is going home as well. She is trying to get home before Christmas rush at the family bakery. Chance had them meet two places before a storm has them spending two days at a motel. After her father has a heart attack shortly after she and her daughter arrive, she calls Matt to help her. In a few days time, they grow to care and love each other. I am not normally one for novella’s, but I really loved this one. I am going to look for more of Freya Barker’s work. 5 out of 5 stars.

A very good story in the Portland ME series and a Christmas Novella, this story gives you a feeling of family, caring and Romance. Tana and her daughter Flynn meet Matt at a gas station as they are both trying to get to Minnesota to do different things she is trying to get to her parents and Matt is trying to get his sister Leena away from their father who is a fanatical LLC member. Tana and Matt keep hitting snowstorms that delay them from getting to where they need to be and meeting up at each stop. A story I would recommend. Freya writes a sweet love story for the holiday season. A bit too quick in the action department given that the story is dealing with a single Mom. Making it a bit unbelievable. Also, the point of view change all of the time takes some getting used to. Definitely not my favorite way to read a book. A good story, just not believable in the beginning which detracts from the rest of the story that is a bit more realistic. This is a really sweet story about two individuals who find love at the right time in their lives. Matt is on his way to pick up his sister and is contemplating his meeting with his parents when he arrives. Tana is on her way to visit her parents. Her father is not in the best of health and as a result she has some decisions she is going to have to make. She and Matt are constantly finding themselves in the same place at the same time could this be fate? Spending time with each other only solidifies their feelings. This story will definitely touch your heart and have you in Matt and Tana's corner. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I absolutely loved this latest book by this talented author! This is a super sweet holiday story about Tana and Matt. Both of them are traveling over the holidays for very different reasons. They keep running into each other over the course of their trip not on purpose. Tana is headed to her parents house with her toddler Flynn and Matt is headed to his parents house to help his younger sister escape their overly religious parents. A big storm blindsides them and leaves them stranded together. Matt and Tana can't fight their obvious attraction and they share one special night. They go on their separate ways wondering if they will see each other again. When Tana is faced with something that she didn't see coming....she called the one person she knew she could count on. Matt drops everything and comes to be by her side. I loved the characters....loved the story hard. The one who stole my heart was little Flynn....she is so cute. I highly recommend this story to everyone....its a great holiday read. Well done!!!

Favorite Quotes: My jawline is definitely softening, and I don't even want to get going on what's happening under my original chin. Since I discovered a long hair where it most definitely does not belong, I've avoided getting too close to a mirror. There are so many reasons anything between us would not be a good idea, but with his tongue in my mouth, I couldn't think of a single one. Montana Memphis Romer… My full name… My father’s dream has always been to go fly-fishing in Montana, and Mom is a big Elvis fan, with a wish to visit Memphis before she dies. I’m my parents’ walking, talking bucket list. “We’ll make it work,” I promise her, lifting my head to look her in the eye. “I can’t tell you where this road is taking us, but I can assure you I don’t want to get off.” My Review: LuLLay was an endearing and entertaining early holiday read with a precious toddler and an arduous and icy road trip that led to a spicy romance and crusty family drama and ended with a highly satisfactory HEA and a brief visit with my old friends at Scully’s. It also yields my new BBF named Matt, I seem to be quite fickle lately but I’ve been lucky in my book selections. One method of ensuring an enjoyable read is to follow skillful authors I adore and Freya Barker is near the top of that list as her easy to follow and engaging writing has never let me down. I wasn’t familiar with the peculiarities of the Laestadian Lutheran religion and can now boast to my prissy mother of yet another educational experience, and a religious one at that, which was gleaned from my silly hobby. So much for her claim that reading fiction was a waste of time ~ smirk.

Another beautiful and enchanting story. I loved it, especially Matt! OMG that story has left me with a good old dose of the warm fuzzies. There’s something about a man taking on the care and love of a fatherless child that just calls to my psyche. I’ve been wondering when Matt would receive his own HEA. Having been a stalwart at The Skipper, the bar where all of the other captivating Portland ME stories have been based around, Matt always seemed a little left out, but all that changes when he drives across the country to rescue his sister from his family of religious zealots. Driving anywhere at Christmas is not without its challenges, especially with the anticipated inclement weather, but trying to undertake a drive like that with a young child who has an ear infection would break the strongest of mothers. Tana (Montana) is just such a mother but thankfully for her, she repeatedly comes across a stranger (Matt) who is more than ready to help her and her daughter, Flynn, out. The first meeting was unexpected, the second downright freaky as both Tana and Matt find their paths crossing again. When it happens for the third time you have to say fate has definitely played a part. Tana and Flynn are a really sweet pair and Flynn is beyond adorable. Add Matt to the mix and my heart just about exploded with happiness. I was expecting the bond between Tana and Matt to add the backbone to this story but for me, Flynn and Matt’s relationship was what I found myself wanting more of. As expected with this series, there are family and emotional problems abound and the main one this time seem to be surrounding Matt’s sister who I hope will get to tell her own story at a future point. Although Tana is not without her fair share of struggles where her father’s health is concerned. This is a seriously good series and definitely one that I would recommend. I feel able to relate to the character’s ages more easily and also to their emotional struggles which perhaps is why I’m drawn to the series. I also loved the fact that Tana is older than Matt and yet she rocks her confidence levels and is more than happy to take on a younger man! Whilst reflecting on existing characters from the Portland ME series, this book can definitely be read as a stand-alone without impacting on the other stories.

As always, Freya Barker delivers a heartfelt read that pulls the reader in from the first page and grabs them by the heartstrings. I love her Portland ME series and always wondered what Matt's story might be. Holiday stories are one of my weaknesses and I love this one. In this novella, Ms. Barker manages to pull as many emotions from the reader as she does in her longer works. I appreciate that she writes mature characters that sometimes life has not treated kindly, but they are strengthened by their challenges, not defeated by them. Unwitting victims of happenstance and fate, Matt and Tana repeatedly meet on their respective road trips home for the holidays. Their reasons have less to do with celebrating Christmas than they do with clearing up family matters. The instant chemistry of the couple is only enhanced by the adorable Flynn, Tana's three-year-old daughter. While they weather the blizzard the question remains, how difficult is the slippery road to a relationship? If this novella doesn't put you in the holiday spirit, then nothing will.

LuLLaY by Freya Barker (one of my Unicorn authors), is the sweet, sexy love story between Matt and Tana (Montana) that has stolen my heart and is CHOCK FULL of ALL the feels! It's a novella, but it is so well written, in Freya's distinctive style, that it reads like a novel! There is the PERFECT amount of back-story that you don't feel like this gorgeous love story is rushed in any way....and can we talk about that little scene-stealer, Flynn? Oh my, that child ABSOLUTELY made the book for me! I adore that cheeky little monkey with all my heart! Whether you are a die-hard Freya fan or you are discovering Ms. Barker's INCREDIBLE talent for the first time, LuLLaY is an sweet, UNFORGETTABLE holiday love story that stay with me for a long, LONG time! I LOVED it!!!
