Ethel Smyth, Marian Anderson, Ella Fitzgerald, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Joni Mitchell, k.d. lang, Chantal Kreviazuk, and Measha Brueggergosman are also included. The chapters combine biographical facts, accomplishments, and anecdotes. While readers may not be familiar with all of these individuals, or, indeed, consider them all to be "magnificent," the book does provide an interesting and varied look at the field.
