About the Author

Jackie Ashenden has been writing fiction since she was eleven years old. Mild-mannered fantasy/science-fiction/pseudo-literary writer by day, obsessive romance writer by night, she used to balance her writing with the more serious job of librarianship until a chance meeting with another romance writer prompted her to throw off the shackles of her day job and devote herself to the true love of her heart: writing romance. She particularly likes to write dark, emotional stories with alpha heroes who’ve just got the world to their liking, only to have it blown wide apart by their kick-ass heroines. She lives in Auckland, New Zealand, with her husband, two kids, and two cats.

I was given a gifted copy by NetGalley. Nora and Smith had a story together in the past and both of them think they had moved on. When they meet again they realize they still have feelings for each other. The book is well written and at the beginning was all right but then the action stops and they were just thoughts and reflections about the past. The best part for me was their consciences speaking to them, making them focus on reality and not the lies they use to disguise their real feelings. I missed a little bit more of action.

3.5 Stars I don't know where I got the idea that this series would be all about the Redmond brothers and I was expecting this story to be about Rush. To be honest, even though the blurb had promise I had to go back to the first book to figure out who Nora was and how she fit into the series. From debutante to bounty hunter is a long way to go but for Nora Sutcliffe, being known as one of the best in the business is everything to her and a far cry from the helpless and clueless debutante she was in a previous life. Her reputation in the business is everything and she won't let any skip mar it, so she's bold enough to brave a biker bar to get her man except she does not expect to come face to face with her past. Eight years ago, Smith was a young man trying to make a living until he fell for the princess in the tower and lost everything. A stint in the military and finding his biker brotherhood have changed him in many ways, but a chance to exact some payback is not one to pass up. A story about a debutante-turned-bounty hunter and a biker definitely was intriguing and Nora and Smith were strong and well-matched characters. I think the author nailed the emotional angle of this story especially the complexity of their relationship, and the chemistry between them was scorching hot. Both of them had very hard exteriors that had been forged by circumstances, but they were each other's weakness and could very easily bring out each other's vulnerable side. I liked seeing Smith the emotionally open man as compared to the hard biker he was with his men. Nora on the other hand was a bit annoying with her avoidance of the issues and her refusal to acknowledge her past missteps. My only issue was that this story focused a lot on their present and there were only few and brief flashes to their past. Their past had a lot of influence on their choices and their present and I wish that the author had expanded on that to fully develop their characters and flesh out this story. Overall, it was an enjoyable, lighthearted and hot romance and I am looking forward to reading more in the series. Disclaimer: I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. Make it Hurt is the second book in Jackie Ashenden's Texas Bounty series and is Nora and Smith's story. We met Nora in the first book in the series, Take Me Deeper. Nora is a female bounty hunter who is tough, fearless, and totally badass. Nothing rattles her cage, nothing except Smith that is. They have a past, one that has played a huge part in shaping Nora into the woman she is today. Smith is the oh so very hot president of a motorcycle club, one with a shady past that he is working very hard to turn around. He's still angry with Nora and the way things went down between them all those years ago. Yet, when he sees her, he still wants her. Determined to punish her for the past, he soon finds out there is a lot more to what happened than he knew about, and so does Nora. The romance, heat, and passion between these two is through the roof, but deception once again threatens to destroy any strides Nora and Smith have made towards reconcilliation. When push comes to shove, whether Smith will have what it takes to make it right with Nora remains to be seen. Make it Hurt is a great second installment in this sexy series. The romance is great, the sexy times are sizzling, and the story is well-written and enjoyable as well. Who doesn't love a hot bad boy and the woman who brings out the best and the worst in him. Definitely add Make it Hurt to your list of books to check out.

Gutsy Bounty Hunter meets Biker MC president 4.5 stars! One can say this story is a second chance romance, or more likely, an enemies to lovers romance with a bumpy road to reconnection. Considering Nora Sutcliffe and Tucker Smith have a past that hadn’t ended well. Smith is bitter with betrayal about Nora not speaking up when her father accused him of seducing his daughter with all sorts of crude accusations. That had been eight years ago, when Nora was eighteen, naive and sweetly surrendering her innocence to Smith, him being only twenty-two. Disheartened by not able to find work after being blacklisted, he gave up and enlisted with the military. But now he’s back, brooding and dangerous, finally putting his life back together and he sees the woman that owes him an explanation. When a brash Nora comes to the bar to claim her skip, she comes face to face with Smith. And the painful guilt she has carried all those years come to the forefront of this confrontation. No longer the naive teenager, but a kickass bounty hunter and the best in her field, she’s a fiery, gun-toting, cowboy-hat- wearing, independent woman who can go toe to toe with Smith. And damn, he’s intrigued. Now that Smith is the president of Graveyard Ministry MC, he’s not about to hand over his vice-president without some sexy blackmailing. Nora can’t help how she feels about Smith and the dreams they use to have. Can she give up control to Smith to find a bit of the dream they once held together? Make It Hurt is the second book to the Texas Bounty Hunters series, and what a nice addition. I am glad how these two broken souls finally have a chance at love. The writing is fluid and the story is filled with sexy goodness with great characters. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. I was given an ARC copy by Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept via NetGalley and I voluntarily reviewed it.

Nora worked for Duchess Bail Bonds and her boss was Duchess Hammond. Nora was sitting outside a biker bar called the Rusty Nail. Nora was good at catching people who had skipped bail. Nora was one of the best recovery agents in the business. But for some reason she felt unsettled about this pickup. Nora wasn’t a spoiled rich girl who didn’t know how to take care of herself anymore. Nora was after Garrett Brook AKA Dust. Bringing men to justice was number one on Nora’s list of “ favorite things to do with the opposite sex” not sleep with them. Nora doesn’t have a love life and that is fine with her. Nora went into the bar where a lot of The Graveyard Ministry MC hung out Nora knew she was pushing her persona safety coming to the bar after the V P of said MC. Usually the Graveyard Ministry stayed under the radar and Nora liked that but today she had a job to do. Nora went to the pool table and looked at the guy lining up the shot He had a lot of scars on his fingers. Nora recognized Nora recognized Smith as he asked if she wanted one of his brothers. Nora had broke Smith’s heart eight years ago Smith was the president of the Graveyard Ministry and Dust was his V P as well as an old army buddy. Smith couldn’t believe that Nora was here in his bar. Rage Smith had thought he had gotten over had filled him. Smith had only been President of the MC for a month. He was trying to turn things around for the club and get rid of all the illegal activities the MC was involved in. when Nora was eighteen she had destroyed the new life Smith was trying to build. Worst part was Smith still wanted Nora and she was wearing the cowboy hat he had left behind. Smith had taken Nora’s virginity but she had not stuck up for Smith against her father and Smith had been fired from his job. Dust had tried to blackmail Duchess for the money her father had taken from the MC so he could get a good lawyer for his case about his son. Dust had been in a bar fight on edge anyway about the custody case. Dust knew he wouldn’t get custody of his son from his ex but she wanted Dust completely out of his son’s life and Dust loved his son. Dust had met Smith in the Army. When Dust had come back from the Army he found his woman had someone else and was denying Dust to see his boy.Nora was tense about spending the night with Smith. When they were young Smith and Nora talked of a future together. I loved this story. A different twist on a MC story but in a great way. I loved how Smith broke threw Nora.s defenses and brought out all the dreams and feelings she had pushed in a box in the back of her mind. Nora felt a lot of pain remembering those dreams but Smith was right there with her. I loved how Smith tried to talk Dust out of giving himself up but Dust wanted to do the right thing. I loved the characters, and the ins and outs of this story and I highly recommend.

Entertaining read. The story has plenty of suspense and drama, the chemistry between Nora and Smith is steamy and the story held my interest throughout. Looking forward to more in the series.

I am a sucker for a MS romance and I loved Ms. Ashenden’s Deacon’s of Bourbon Street MC books so even though this book was about bounty hunters I had to read it. For me it’s hard not to love a book that has a bada*s, sexy alpha male biker in it but when you have the added bonus of a strong female who has given everything material up to make it on her own, well, that has the makings of a another great book. I fell in love with Smith and his tough, no holds bar way of handling situations which you have to if you are the Prez of the Graveyard Ministry MC. Who better than bounty hunter, Nora Sutcliffe, to bring in the VP of the Ministry’s MC in on a bond. Going into this Nora had no idea that Smith was not only Prez of the MC but he was also a war buddy of Dust, the man Nora was to bring in. You can imagine Smith’s surprise when he seen this little cowboy hat wearing, gun toting woman walk into his biker bar and try to take one of his own in. The last time he had seen Nora was when she was a spoiled little rich girl living in a mansion with her father and he was a guy working on a pool house construction job at her house. Ah, young love. Nora gives her virginity to Smith and they are forming a great relationship when dear old dad steps in and has Smith banned from even getting a job in the Houston area and Nora never once comes to defend him and his intensions with her. Now with regards to Nora trying to take Dust in, Smith figures he will make a deal with Nora, he will hand Dust over to her if she spends one night with him. Is Nora going to put everything on the line for a one night fling with an old boyfriend…no matter how fine looking he is now? Will Smith really turn his back on one of his brothers just to get Nora in bed one more time? These two are very strong individuals that have come full circle now and are butting heads with a lot of unquenched desire still building inside of them. It’s a great love story done biker style. I received this ARC from NetGalley and I freely give my honest review.

"A truth too far... I got my first taste of this author in the Deacons of Bourbon Street series. That's how I knew she had what it takes to write a sexy, dirty-talkin', badass, bossy biker very well. And very H-O-T. And yes, I'm totally addicted to MC Romance, so when I saw there was a biker in this story, even though it's about a bounty hunter, I couldn't resist. And once you meet Smith, you won't be able to resist him either... Nora is badass. She has a gun and a badge, and the attitude to back them up. When Smith sees her for the first time in eight years, it's hard for him to believe that she's the same 'Golden Girl' that he left behind in Texas. That shy little debutante is all grown up, and she's pushing all his buttons. He's not the same either. He's older, stronger, and harder. Especially when she's around... When Nora shows up at the biker hangout and sees Smith, it's not the bikers that she's afraid of. She can take care of her herself. It's her heart that's in danger. The bad-boy from her past took it with him when he left years ago. She hasn't seen it since, and that's worked out just fine for her. Her life has been much easier since she pushed her feelings out of the way and stopped depending on others. Well, it was working just fine... until now. He's all grown up and hotter than ever. He's pushing buttons she didn't even know she had. But if there's one thing she's learned the hard way, "It's easier to deny herself what she truly wanted than to have someone else do it." And another thing she's learned... it's easier to deny her feelings when their not standing right in front of her, glaring back. Yup, he's still pissed. Ok, that's all you get. You'll have to find out for yourself what happened between them, just like I did. Will they be able to overcome the past and find their way back to each other? Will the spark that still remains between them burn out, or blow up? Will their painful history keep them apart, or will they make it hurt and move on?

Nora was a rich girl who’s father wanted her to marry one if his friends. When she refused, he threw her out. Now she is a bail bonds woman and one tough cookie. She goes to a biker bar looking for a skip. What she finds is her past. Smith is the president of the motorcycle club. Eight years ago, he was in love with Nora but she hung him out and he has never forgiven her. Her father accused him of seducing her and of being a rapist. He spread it all over and he couldn’t get a job. Nora is after his VP and best friend. He makes a deal..she gives him one night and he’ll turn over his VP. He quickly realizes one night is not enough. But can they get over the past and move forward? Good story. Tough bikers. Sexy bonds woman. Sex. Hurt feelings. I think he held onto his anger too long and Nora should have given him an authentic apology. Why would he want to make his last name the same as the man who ruined him? That was not right. *RECEIVED A COPY FROM NETGALLEY*

Love the Series! I got this book through NetGalley, in exchange for a review, which I am very happy to provide. This was my First Book By Jackie Ashenden but I am pretty sure it won't be my last. I loved the flawed characters and the chemistry between them was hot and I had a real hard time putting the book down. Now even though this is the second book in the series, there really wasn't any problem, I never felt lost or confused as to what is going on. It really centered more around their personal life and history, and did not go into detail about the MC or Bounty Hunting. It was an emotional read with some super hot romance and I loved the inner dialog that was happening. A very entertaining read for sure.

Jackie Ashenden can always be relied upon to write a sexy, hot romance with an alpha hero, and the latest addition to her Texas Bounty series, Make It Hurt, is no exception. Nora Sutcliffe escaped her rich, controlling father seven years ago and became a successful fugitive recovery agent - otherwise known as a bounty hunter. Her latest assignment is a local motorcycle club member, and she bravely enters the group's local bar searching for him. She finds him but also finds her first love, Smith - the man her father ruined eight years ago after discovering the two were lovers. Smith is no longer the optimistic, twenty-two year old that Nora knew and loved. He is hardened and very pissed at Nora, because he believes she could have stopped her father. He was forced to join the army and then returned a veteran and joined the motorcycle club. He has no intentions of giving up his fellow club member and has every intention of extracting revenge on Nora. Smith and Nora are electric and you cannot help but hope they can find love again. It is a difficult road - Smith was devastated that Nora did not stand up to her father and Nora's priorities are now with her job. Make It Hurt is a thoroughly enjoyable second chance romance. Ms. Ashenden can almost do no wrong in my book, and I can't wait until her next release. ARC provided by publisher via Netgalley, but no one made me write this review and my opinions are honest and my own.

Overall, I found this book to be quite enjoyable. This is my first read by this author and I have to say, Make It Hurt was a quick and easy read for me. I loved the concept and story-line. I found Nora and Smith to a very interesting couple and was excited to see how things would play out with them. You see, Nora is a bounty hunter and Smith is a biker. The two of them couldn’t be more opposites, but share a complicated history. I thought that Smith and Nora had some really good chemistry and they definitely shared some scorching times together. Make It Hurt isn’t 100% perfect and does have some areas which could have been improved upon such as overall character development. That being said, I did find the book entertaining and was able to finish it one sitting. I think this series has a lot of good potential and I look forward to seeing where the author will take it next.

I am a HUGE fan of Ashenden's books. This series had me hooked from the first book Take Me Deeper and in Make It Hurt, the enjoyment continues. So Nora and Smith, current Prez of an MC club, meet up again 8 years later when Nora comes to get Smith's VP. Smith is angry to say the least at Nora. 8 years ago she was 18, Daddy's little rich, spoiled girl, in love and still under Daddy's thumb. She finally left that life and after being kicked out of the house by her a**hole Dad, she found work with the Duchess working as a Bounty Hunter. Smith, after being denounced by her in front of said Dad, was left jobless and penniless. He left for the army and came back changed. Though this was an enjoyable read I found that I didn't like it as much as the first one. No action, just a constant dialogue back and forth between the 2. Smith mad at Nora for not sticking up for him 8 years ago and wanting some acknowledgement from her that she was sorry. Nora, on the other hand, was saddled with that guilt and never living up to her Dad's expectations. I give Nora credit for making something out of her life and not crawling back to her Dad. She became a strong independent woman though her naivete showed when it came to Smith. In the end they do have their HEA. 3.5 stars!

An excellent read!! A second chance story with a twist that can only be done by Jackie Ashenden. Bounty hunter, Nora Sutcliffe, finally found her man. Finding him in a sleazy biker bar isn't unexpected. What shocks her is coming face to face with Smith. Her young love and the man she should have stood behind and didn't. Eight years later he's bigger, tougher, and the president of the MC that her skip belongs to. Things just got real complicated! Smith knows he can never give up one of his brothers but getting a little revenge isn't something he can resist. He never understood why Nora left him hanging the way she did and he plans on finding out now. These two are sizzling hot and it's interesting to see how their lives have changed. I definitely recommend this one.

Smith completely made this book for me. It was a very short read and a second chance story mainly about Nora and Smith resolving what happened to them when she was 18 and he was early 20's. They got a bad deal because of Nora's controlling father when they were younger. There are a lot of hard feelings on Smith's side that's completely justifiable. Nora, has a lot of making up to do but she is stubborn and hiding from her feelings. Despite all that, Smith was clearly still hung up on Nora and he came at her hard, breaking her down a piece at a time. I enjoyed every bit of how he broke her down. He's the bad boy with morals that doesn't take no for answer. Very HOT! ARC provided by NetGalley.

I loved book one of the Texas Bounty series, Take Me Deeper, and had high hopes for a repeat with this new book. Well, I must say, I was disappointed. I could deal with the language but somehow both the plot and Nora, the female main character just didn’t do it for me. Nora is suppose to be a debutante who is now a tough cookie, and is a hotshot bounty hunter. First, I didn’t find her total about face character believable. Secondly, if she was such a great bounty hunter, and was going to a MC bar, wouldn’t she have done some research on the MC Club BEFORE entering to search for a “skip”? If she had, she would have known Smith was the president. So no, not feasible in my book, or she was just inept. Just not a character I cared for. Smith on the other hand, was a more developed and likable character. The plot centers around the fact that they both had a history. She was the 18 year old debutante that fell in love or had an infatuation with a 22 year old construction guy building a pool house in her house. They get caught having sex , he is accused of rape, she doesn’t defend him and off he goes. First to the Army , then to the biker club until they meet again. She basically destroyed his life because of her actions. Without going any deeper, that is the gist of the story. As much as I enjoy the intimate scenes, it basically makes up most of the book. I wanted more substance. So, sadly ,this one is getting a 3 star. Extra points for what it could have been, and because I still think the author just had a lapse moment. Her books usually are more engaging. I was gifted this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are sole my own.
