Purpose: The purpose is to provide a single comprehensive reference incorporating the latest relevant data on bladder cancer. The book aims to serve all who are interested in treating, researching, and learning about the disease, and highlights knowledge gaps and controversies.
Audience: The target audience is researchers, clinicians, trainees, allied health professionals, and medical students. Given the emphasis and specificity of the chapters on early stage bladder cancer, this book seems most geared to urologists and urology trainees.
Features: The book is divided into three sections: general concepts, non-muscle invasive disease, and muscle invasive disease. The general concepts section provides a rich and diverse range of topics ranging from epidemiology to prognostication that are interesting and informative. The non-muscle invasive section is case based and detailed, providing an easy, quick reference for busy clinicians and trainees. The muscle invasive section is similarly detailed. There is some overlap of topics, particularly in the muscle invasive section. Controversies in management are highlighted, and at times the authors' recommendations differ. There is some discussion of advanced bladder cancer, but it is not as comprehensive and detailed as the remainder of the book. The data on management of non-urothelial bladder cancers is modest; a chapter for quick reference on this entity would be a reasonable addition.
