Overview

Math Scripts: Algebra 1 is a supplemental resource designed to strengthen students' understanding of Algebra 1 through structured mathematical language. Using word-for-word scripts, students practice solving equations and inequalities by speaking, writing, and reasoning through each step.

Each script models the correct use of the rules of equations, inequalities, and the order of operations. Students work individually or in pairs, reading aloud and writing the steps they speak. This process helps students connect mathematical language to symbolic notation-supporting both conceptual understanding and mathematical literacy.

Topics are presented at multiple levels, allowing students to begin at an entry point and progress toward more complex reasoning. By speaking the language of mathematics, students build confidence, clarity, and fluency in Algebra 1.

About the Author

Carol Armstrong Hardee began her teaching career as a high school math teacher but taught twelve years at the middle school level before returning to high school. Early in her career, she was selected as one of two fellows from the state of Texas to attend the AT&T Teachers in Technology Institute. She served as a teacher on special assignment for her school district as a middle school math mentor for the Urban Systemic Program and a staff developer in the Math and Science Partnership both sponsored by the National Science Foundation. She is the mother of four sons and the minister of music at her church. She loves to play the piano and sing.
