About the Author

Being the mother of two children, it was easy for this author to write about what kids love to do. We all know that feeling of excitement when we step off that bus on the last day of school and then the feeling of excitement when school starts again. Not only was this author inspired by her children’s adventures, but she also decided it was more fun to rhyme about them in the stories she tells. The author of the Miss Maddie Mae Book series, Jackie Sowatsky, lives in Lititz, Pennsylvania, with her husband, two golden retrievers, and one Siamese cat.

CHAPTER 1

Today my mom surprised me. We drove to the candy store. She said I got to pick one thing, but I wanted so much more.

As I walked in, my eyes grew big, there was just so much to see. There were lemon drops and lollypops, and licorice sticks for me.

I took my time, picked carefully, then chose the sour chews. When I ate them all, one by one, They turned my teeth bright blue.

But I chewed and I chewed, still slurpin' juice, When all of a sudden, my tooth became loose.

I ran to show mom that I had a loose tooth. "Congratulations," she said. It was those sticky chews.

Mom said to get busy and wiggle that tooth. But I didn't really think that my tooth was that loose.

But I'm a big girl and I'm not gonna pout. I thought and I thought how that tooth could come out.

I first reached for an apple and gave it a bite. But for my tooth to come out, I'd have to bite it just right.
