Set in Central America, long before the arrival of the Spanish, three young girls are given to the Aztec Priesthood. Tepin, Left-Behind and Flower don't know who to trust except each other. After several years of education and training within the temple walls, they manage to escape on the eve before their planned sacrifice to the war god. With the aide of a small group of loyal followers, they embark upon a long and difficult journey through Central America, from present day Mexico City to present day Guatemala, looking for a place they can live without fear.
