Chapter 1

I had a porn habit.

It wasn’t an obsession. It wasn’t a fetish. It didn’t require trips to anonymous meetings where I said, “Hello, my name is Avery and I’m addicted to naked men.” I simply enjoyed watching people have sex. The women in porn, however, never looked like me.

Mainstream porn stars looked more like a silicone Barbie, i.e., half modeling career failure, half sex doll/mechanical experiment.

Conversely, I was soft, curvy, and not a size six.

I’d been told I wore the weight well, that I had a pretty face. All the shit curvy women heard. Men told me I had a great rack. That if I lost forty pounds I’d be acceptable––that’s actual verbiage––and even referred to flirting with me as “taking one for the team.” I’d never be thin. Some women weren’t meant to be, but like most, I still wanted to feel feminine. Sexy in my skin. Desirable––just as I was.

Christ, I can’t believe I let Kat talk me into this. Feminine and sexy, she said. This might have been my crazy idea after one–too–many glasses of wine last night, but she knew how to nudge me to get me to follow through. Which was how I ended up in a tacky-as-hell waiting room.

The chair I occupied––if you could call it a chair––was a clear plastic, modern thing that was way too narrow for my ass. Black-and-white photos of chiseled female torsos lined the walls, a hot pink chandelier hung suspended over a zebra-print ottoman full of beauty magazines and gossip rags. And the rest of the all-female clientele could have been in a casting room for a skin flick, which drove me bat-shit crazy.

Some wore yoga pants with belly rings, and T-shirts likely purchased in the children’s department. Others were the Louis Vuitton–toting, fake-boobed trophy wives with five-carat diamonds and one too many syringes of Botox. There were even a couple of professionals: tailored business suits, Louboutin peep toes, and crimson lips that matched their Prada laptop bags.

And not a one of them weighed more than my right leg.

I was the only Adele in a room full of Pam Andersons and Angelina Jolies. The only other “plus-sized” girl in the room was on the cover of a health magazine in a “before” picture with a caption that read, “How I Lost Half My Body Weight in Six Months.” Although none of those women could have taken me in a fight, there I sat, letting the Real Housewives of Dallas give me the disapproving once-over.

Well, screw that and them, and their not-so-sly side-eyes of distaste.

See, I knew what I looked like with my sweet round face and tight brown bun. My beige pencil skirt and kitten heels. My dimples and reading glasses. I looked like an enginerd, and I was okay with that—I’d learned to appear asexual––it was the role I had to play as a female engineer trying to make partner in my firm.

The thing was, I had an entirely different woman locked inside of me. That chick had a huge set of balls, liked hard rock music, and drank her whiskey neat. She mouthed off with great satisfaction and cussed like a well-informed sailor. She had little filter between her brain and mouth, and a zero-tolerance policy on stupidity.

She made my appointment, thinking it would be a great way to kick off the vacation where I intended to give her free rein on New Orleans and let her act like the little hussy she was. She thought I should feel sexy and feminine, comfortable in my skin. And if I had to fake it till I’d made it? So be it.

“Avery Barrows,” came a sweet Southern drawl.

Shit. Easier said than done and all that. “Yeah,” I croaked in my Midwestern accent as my nerves redoubled. My badass disappeared at the most inconvenient times.

“I’m Jess. Nice to meet you. Says here it’s your first time?”

I cleared my throat, trying to wage war on the nerves. “Yes.”

“Well, I hope it won’t be your last.” She winked and then ushered me down the hall into a small room, closing the door behind us. “Okay, Avery. You’ll need to undress from the waist down. Please use the baby wipes to clean the area of any body oils or debris, and there’s a towel on the table for you to cover up with. I’m sure you’re a bit nervous but try to relax. I’ve done thousands of Brazilian waxes and I promise to make it as painless as possible.”

It wasn’t the pain I was worried about. But letting this woman see my body, the lack of a thigh gap and softness of my stomach. Yeah, I could go a lifetime without doing that.

“You get undressed and prepped, and I’ll grab you a glass of wine. Red or white?”

“Whiskey,” I replied, and Jess chuckled as she pulled the door closed.

Shucking my shoes, skirt, and practical cotton hipsters, I cleaned up with the wipes and pushed up on the table, concealing as much of my hips as I could with a hand towel, tugging this way and that in hopes it would magically cover more. God, why had I thought this was a good idea? What if she has to use extra wax, or ask me to stretch my skin to get into the crease of my thigh?

With a tap on the door, Jess breezed in, handing me a large glass of red, from which I swallowed deeply.

“So, we’re doing the Full Monty today?”

“Okay, lay back for me, Avery. I need you to pull your legs up like a frog and spread wide. Just bend your knees and let them fall open.”

“Jesus,” I mumbled, slapping a hand over my eyes. Jess chuckled as she took my wine and towel. Then I chanced a peek south. Shit. I hadn’t trimmed in a while. With my cocoa-colored hair, it looked like a family of lowland gorillas had staked out their territory and were living quite comfortably in my lady garden.

“Perfect,” she said, and applied warm wax to my pubic bone, effectively smothering my gorillas. “What made you decide to try a Brazilian?”

Small talk? Really? “My friend, Katia. We’re taking a girl’s trip to New Orleans and I thought, what the hell . . . it’s New Orleans.”

“Well, that sounds fun.” RRRRIP.

“Hmphf.” Holy shit! It felt like sitting on a mound of fire ants.

“How was that? Painful?”

“Not as bad as I thought.” I totally lied.

“You didn’t even flinch, good girl. Kat is one of my regulars. I saw her yesterday and she said she was sending me a new client.”

“Mmphf.” Sonofabitch. “Yeah, Kat’s like family. We were roommates at the University of Texas.”

“Well, it shouldn’t be hard for you two to find trouble in New Orleans.” RRRIP.

Ooh, definitely a flinch there.

Jess smoothed the cooling gel over my tender skin, and so it continued with the rips and the small talk.

“Okay, for this last area, you need to turn over on your front and get up on all fours. Spread your knees apart as wide as you can.”

“WHAT?” I sat up. “Why in God’s name would you need to wax my butt?”

The corner of her mouth twitched. “Most women’s pubic hair extends over the perineum and around the anus, even a little on the inside of the cheeks. A Brazilian includes the rear end as well.”

“Seriously? I thought hairy asses were only a guy thing.”

Jess snickered. “There’s not much, but most women have some. You can pass if it makes you uncomfortable.”

“Yeah, because having a relative stranger’s hands in my kitty isn’t embarrassing at all.” I blew out a breath. “I’ve come this far. Yeah, go ahead,” I said, trying desperately not to think of how wide my ass would look stuck in the air.

I assumed the position and jumped at the first brush of her fingers. Well, hello there.

“So, are you seeing anyone? Will he or she be surprised?”

“No. It’s . . . just for me.”

She applied warm wax over my inner cheeks. “You know, NOLA is a great place for a hookup. Maybe you’ll meet someone and you can show off your new baldie.” RRRIP. RRRIP. RRRIP.

Oh, Christ. Just . . .Dang, that hurt.

Gentle fingers brushed over my backdoor as she smoothed on the gel. Thank God for gel.

“There. All finished.” Jess snapped off her gloves. “You can turn around.” She handed me the towel and I tried not to make the eww face at how slickery my butt cheeks felt as she told me how to care for my skin and when to follow up. “Don’t worry, Avery. The first time is always the worst. It gets less embarrassing.”

Why the hell would anyone do this more than once? But as I passed through the waiting room to leave, I smirked at porn star Barbie and the Frankenhookers. I’d done something that wasn’t easy for any woman. Especially a curvy girl like me. I was ready to take on New Orleans, put the enginerd away for a bit, and let the badass out to find some trouble.

Yeah, bitches. I got me some huge balls.

Freshly waxed.

4 Stars Review by Elizabeth Late Night Reviewer Up All Night w/ Books Blog Moonlight & Whiskey is the first book I have read by Tricia Lynne. Make sure you have everything you need to binge read! In Moonlight & Whiskey, we meet Avery, a woman full of wit and sarcasm, and Declan, a bar owner and musician. When they first meet, Declan gets the full side of no filter Avery and it is funny. As the book progresses each of the characters has their own past to overcome and roadblocks occur. I loved that Tricia Lynne was able to incorporate realism into Moonlight & Whiskey. I also loved that Avery came out of the shell she had put herself in and let her true self show. I was also able to connect with Avery throughout the book as she let her issues with her past out. While there was chemistry between Avery and Declan, I found myself not connecting with Declan. Overall, I liked the book and would definitely recommend it.

I’m not sure I’ll be able to actually articulate my feelings on this one, but I will say that two stars might be too high. I liked the idea of Avery and Declan. They both have some issues and I did like that they found something in the other. There was some great banter and playfulness, but nothing I was blown away by. The other characters had potential, but I wanted more from all of them. Plot wise, it was a lot of clichés and tropes. For me, there were a lot of odd word choices, repetitive phrases, and cringe-y sex scenes. I will say that the background of New Orleans was like a love letter to the city and it might have been the best part of the story. Overall, it could have been something I loved. Sadly, I spent a good portion of the time skimming passages and rolling my eyes. **Huge thanks to Loveswept for providing the arc free of charge**

Hot and sexy good read. Set in my home state of Louisiana. Will be looking for more books from this author. Hope to see Mattie’s HEA as well as Kat’s.

This book got off to a rousing start and maintained that pace throughout the majority of the book. I'll admit that I chuckled out loud on several occasions. There are one or two little editing errors but overall a satisfying read.

Avery has a p0rn habit. Any books that starts with that sentence indicates what type of book this will be. Pretty hot. Avery is a curvy girl and in a rut. Declan is a hot commodity and when they meet its hot and on.

I have a Plus-size love for Moonlight & Whiskey! This was a touching and beautiful story, and one I can relate to. Avery was a boss and Declan was the only one deserving of everything she had to offer. The magic of NOLA is always intriguing and it was a great background for this story. Hopefully, we'll get to see how the other lives of BlackSmith play out.

ARC for honest review with no compensation received from NetGalley Moonlight and Whiskey is a standalone book by Tricia Lynne and my first book by this author. Will certainly be looking for more of her books and sure hope she writes more about the secondary characters in this book!! Avery and Declan come from two different worlds but when they meet it is explosive! This is a must read with lots of steamy romance, dirty talk, laughter, angst and a sharp tongued curvy woman!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Avery is a beautiful full figured woman and is very talented with her job as an engineer. However, not everyone seems to agree with her. I feel that she has been taken advantage of. Her vacation to New Orleans leads her to a handsome rocker named Declan for a vacation fling. Her determination to cut loose, her mouth that loves to let loose and her fantastic personality lead her to many changes. Is this just a vacation fling or much more involved???

I loved this book! I fell in love with the characters, the raw and real of every part and I cannot wait to read more! Sure to bring out the uninhibited freak in you! Avery is my kind of girl with her brains, vans and her take no s**t attitude! Let your freak flag fly and keep your significant other on standby!

Who doesn't love a little romance with a lot of steam? Avery has a lack of self esteem that a lot of us can relate to. When she decides to just "go for it" while vacationing in New Orleans with her friend, it changes her life. Even though her on again, off again relationship gets to be a bit much, she gets her happy ending. And who doesn't love a happy ending!

By day Avery is a straight laced business woman, who keeps her true self under wraps, for fear of her co-workers seeing the real woman that lies beneath her modest pants suits. In her work world she knows you have to keep your head down, work hard, and don't make waves to become successful, and she has mastered that. But at what cost? With her upcoming vacation she plans to let loose a little, and let the woman trapped beneath the suit out for a bit to breath. Which also means the suits will be staying home in her closet, and her sexy clothes will be on full display, and hopefully play nicely into her little plan. She needs the company of a man, and she is hoping her well accentuated curves will lure one in. But nothing could have prepared her for the uber sexy, tattooed rocker that finds his way into her heart and her bed... Moonlight and Whiskey is a sizzling debut that satisfies on many fronts! It comes brimming with loads of angst, sexiness, and gut-wrenching emotion to give your heart a good squeeze and leave your knees weak. This engaging story line and it's sassy, confident heroine kept me enthralled from start to finish, at times she had me feeling like I was right along with her on her little adventure. I just cannot say enough good things about this one, the writing was impeccable, characters were superbly crafted, and it spoke volumes to my heart and fed my spirit! Highly recommend!! I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and I am leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

When Avery Barrows agreed to go to New Orleans with her friend, Kat, she was looking for some fun…and man did she find it! Her sassy mouth and big chest can sure get her into trouble… Hottie bad-boy Musician Declan McGinn may have been turned on as much by Avery’s mouth as her body…a body that isn’t “model-like”, but has just the right curves for him. The only thing that I wasn’t completely on board with was the way Avery was such a rude B, and yet Declan kept coming back to her. I don’t think women need to be that way to a guy, and she was over and over…especially the first time they met. I loved this fun, hot, sexy storyline and the characters were great! Avery, Declan, Katia, Matt, Jamie, all of them added so perfectly to this book! I liked the conflict and the resolution...and overall just really enjoyed this book and would recommend it!

A new to me author Moonlight & Whiskey by Tricia Lynne. A spicy book that I couldn't put until until I finished. Likable characters and great storyline. Enjoyed the setting in New Orleans. Two girls go to New Orleans on vacation. I hope there will be a sequel to the book. I look forward to reading more by author.

This book was so powerful. It mesmerized me and I couldn't put it down. The relationship hardships and the ups were very addicting. I've been married over 10 years and this book even makes me wish for a more powerful love story. I cannot rave enough about this book. The way she wrote it, adding a new narrator at just the right part. I loved everything about it.

As daring and seductive as the city of New Orleans itself, this is a story of a woman opening up to herself...and also to a smoking hot rock star with a panty-incinerating Irish accent. This has always been a city of transgression and possibility, which makes it the perfect backdrop for these characters' journey. A little bit kinky and a whole lot of fun!

This steamy story takes place on a girls weekend to New Orleans. Avery is a curvy, body conscious, engineer tired of the atmosphere of working in a male dominated field. Declan is a tattooed front man for a local New Orleans band. The two meet my chance and the sparks fly while each deals with their own demons. This story is told beautifully and draws you into the story line. I couldn't put this book down and I can't wait for the next one from this author.

Holy cow did I love Avery and Declan!!!! Their story was just so sensual and sexy! It just had such a physical, intensely sensual feel to it. It was beautiful and made me cheer them on. They were so drawn to each other, it was explosive. They were so similar in their vulnerabilities. But Declan brought out Avery's dirty side. Goodness there love scenes were unbelievable. To be that in tuned with someone was erotic and hot. I loved how they communicated, telling each other secrets they would not normally share, being brutally honest and blunt with each other. They sizzled in each scene they were in together. I could not read their story fast enough. They fell for each other quick, but man they were good together. I loved the inner snark and feistiness Declan brought about in Avery. I loved them together and with their friends. Oh how I adored her friend and his bandmates. They were golden all together. And reading this book makes me more excited for the next one in this series. I must have Jamie, Kat, and Matt's stories. They kept each other on their toes and called them on their stuff. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.

4 1/2 Stars! Avery is an engineer and works in a man's world, trying to be one of the boys so she can make partner. Her best friend Kat drags her to New Orleans to get her away from her life for a week. The first night she's there she meets Declan, a brooding rock god with a hard body full of tattoos and a velvet voice that melts her heart. The sparks between them are undeniable, so they agree to have a fling while she's on vacation because he doesn't do relationships ... ever. I couldn't help but fall in love with Declan ... who wouldn't! He was just so enchanted with Avery that he didn't even realize that he was falling for her ... hard! And I loved the way Avery just gave it back to Declan or anyone who made her mad. But I did have a hard time with some of the phrasing that the author used in describing things and the fact that everything (in the beginning) was about Avery's weight. Also the cover doesn't fit with the book ... the guy doesn't have one tattoo! The twists and turns had me turning the pages well into the night, so that I could finish the book. And the side characters were great ... there has to be stories there. Kat and Jamie - you just know it's more than a fling. And Mattie ... his story is screaming to be told. I received an early copy courtesy of Random House - Loveswept through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

While I might be in the minority on this one, I have to say I did not care this book at all. I couldn't connect with these characters. I found Avery abrasive and offensive at times. I didn't understand or feel the connection between her and Declan. On top of all that I thought there was too much focus put on the Avery's size and it took away from the story. Rarely do I choose not to finish a book but after about 60% of the way through I had to give up on this one. This is not a book I can recommend.

Avery Barrows is tired of being treated like crap by guys. They cannot accept that she may be a little curvier than most girls and they mostly cannot accept that she is smart and damn good at her job as a mechanical engineer. Needing a break from her real life Avery and her best friend Kat, a retired super model, decide to head to New Orleans for a week of fun. After checking into their hotel Avery crashes into the best looking guy she has ever seen and lets loose her smart mouth attitude. What she doesn't realize is that this guy, Declan McGinn, is very attracted to her curvy figure and especially her smart mouth. After finally convincing her that he wants to take her to dinner to apologize for running into her, the sparks begin to fly. Things quickly heat up between these two but just as it looks like they will get a perfect happy ending, demons from both of their pasts come haunting back. It will take a huge leap of faith for both Avery and Declan to get to that happy ending, but they do. I just loved this story. Both of these characters were so fun, as were their friends. Many times I'd find myself just laughing out loud while reading this. This story was also sexy and fun. I was just in New Orleans in October of 2018 so it was fun reliving all the places I had been to. Overall this was a fun, sexy read with great characters and a great first book for a new author. I look forward to reading Kat's story!

Moonlight & Whiskey is a fabulous debut that is sure both scorch your heart and ignite your very soul. This story shocked my system with its superb realism, sizzling heat, and breathtaking honesty. My heart was utterly shattered, unabashedly cherished, and supremely set aflame. What I found within these pages transformed the way I see people around me. I understand now that there is so much more then will ever be seen at one glance. People are infinitely more complex than any story that will ever be written, but at their heart their needs and desires are all the same. Life sometimes twists us into overly complex people in how we learn to deal with those around us. However, our hearts beat the same and no matter how we fight it, we need each other more then we will ever know. A simple vacation for Avery Barrows sets her on a life-changing journey that challenges the way she sees herself and opens her heart to the greatest adventure she could ever ask for. Just when she finds herself on the cusp of something new and freeing, Declan Barrows shows her what has been painfully missing. His captivating eyes forever challenge her to push her boundaries while his rough hands savor every delicate inch of her. Unfamiliar with the lavish and overpowering attention of a man with honest intentions, Avery is unsure if she can afford to let her heart lead her down the path that is set before her. Confused and dazed Avery finds herself balancing on a precipice that will either send her barreling towards an ecstasy induced heaven or a painfully bitter heartache. Will Declan be there to catch her when she falls, or will Avery find herself enduring the excruciating pain of moving forward without the powerful presence and gentle care of the enigmatic yet loving Declan. Declan and Avery took my heart by storm. I wasn’t prepared for them or the power of their story. My heart couldn’t contain everything I felt during this incredible story. It was too big, too complex, and too rich for just one person to house. This needs to be felt and experienced by everything strong enough to endure a real yet rewarding love story firmly rooted in real life. While I enjoy fiction for its innate virtues, my heart thrives on emotions and people and situations that reflect reality moreso then imagination alone. Power is born from vulnerability, and this story celebrates and revels in it. Never be afraid or ashamed of allowing others to see the real you. Only then can we form the deep connections that our very soul needs in order to live and thrive. Tricia Lynne has created a superb masterpiece that is sure to delight, entertain, and set your very soul on fire! Nothing is as pure and perfect as writing from the depths of your heart, and Lynne has proved that with flying colors. I am completely and totally in love with this book and the marvelous characters that fill it. This author has graced us with a gold standard story, and has raised the bar for other debut authors! I see great things in Lynne’s future, and I am excited to see what she creates next!

This was a smokin' hot and intense roller coaster with complicated and stubborn characters and I thought it was an awesome read! Avery and Declan had sizzling chemistry. It could be flirty and playful, off the charts hot and sexy, as well as emotional and tense. Avery has a fiery attitude and is full of spunk, I liked her instantly. Declan is super sexy and has this edge to him I really liked. There are inner demons to be fought and personal battles to deal with and I really liked how it all unfolded while learning their histories and embracing their personalities. This story is very insta-lust and I pretty much embraced that aspect to fully enjoy it. Overall it really worked even though there were a few things that felt over the top. When I say this story was hot, I mean it was cold shower worthy… these two together were on fire! There's a nice cast of characters from Avery's best friend to Declan's bandmates. I liked all the different dynamics and relationships that were happening and how that played into the story. I'd love to see the best friend get her own story, I really like what was set up in this one. The writing was good, there was a decent pace and nice descriptions. There's drama and angst, emotion and heat, I thought it was really well rounded. Avery and Declan could both be pretty hard headed and some times that back and forth between them got to be a little much but they got there in the end. It was a great HEA! I thought Moonlight and Whiskey had great entertainment value and was hooked! It was exciting to read. This was my first time reading this author and I'd definitely read more. Great way to kick off a series! Complimentary copy received for honest review.

I picked up this book because I LOVE Rocker romances. There is just something about a bad boy..... any who, I read the blurb and thought, this seems right up my alley! And a newly published author too! I couldn't resist. I love finding new authors to love! But, sadly, it's always a risk. Sometimes, you get a new author that isn't really all that great, or their story doesn't make sense, or they forget they need to proofread. And then other times, you find that jewel in the rough, just waiting to be let loose on the world, to share their amazing talent with readers everywhere. And that is where this book fits in. I absolutely adored this book! From the instant connection between the characters, to the descriptions that are so vivid, I can actually picture the amazingness that is New Orleans. From the steamy love scenes, to the parts that ripped my heart in two, this author put together a book that I could not put down, even if I'd had to. Avery is a woman who knows who she is, but feels she has to hide it. She is a woman in a man's world, trying to get ahead by keeping her head down and working hard. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but she seems to have lost parts of herself in the process. So she takes a girl's trip with her bestie to the Crescent City, hoping to find the part of herself she's hidden away for too long. Declan is a musician with a past that he doesn't talk about, a past that has jaded him to all things relationship. He wasn't looking for her, but he burst into her world and couldn't keep himself away from her. These two.....Lets just say, I was laughing so hard I was crying by the third chapter. They had such an electric connection, but they also challenged each other. This book has the bad boy, the good girl that is letting out her bad girl, and a bit of New Orleans mysticism thrown in for good measure. Declan and Avery made a perfect couple, despite their differences, and their story is one that will stick with me for a long time to come!

I thought this was a good story and it was a page turner . I enjoyed the storyline and it has a little bit of everything in it. I enjoyed reading about Avery and Declan. I received an Arc from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
