More than Equals - Spiritual Friendships
Unprogrammed Friends are particularly guarded about any practice which may seem to interfere with a person’s direct relationship with God. There are times in the lives of most of us, however, when we seek something a little deeper, or have a particular question we are wrestling with in our faith lives. Sometimes we hope there will be an opportunity after worship to debrief about the ministry we’ve just heard (or spoken), but perhaps we don’t have a chance. Having a spiritual friend means that there’s someone you meet with regularly who is willing to talk about such things. It also gives us a chance to be fully present for someone else. It is a model which speaks uniquely to us as Quakers; we are, after all, called the Religious Society of Friends. Just as we are called to be “friends of the Light,” we are also called to be friends to one another.
