My Granny Is the Best depicts fond memories of quality time spent with a grandmother in another country. My children were born in Boston. But it was important for me to have them visit Trinidad and foster a beautiful relationship with their grandmother. The story tells about their experiences with their grandmother during summer vacations. The times spent were always special and intentional. The relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren is second in emotional importance only to the relationship between parent and child. Children benefit when grandparents are involved in their lives. That goes without saying. But grandparents also enjoy benefits from relationships with their grandchildren. The love and bond between them should cause all children to believe that their grandparents are the best.

About the Author

Dr. Allison Matthews will find a way into a young readers imagination through familiar experiences shared during family vacations. She has worked in early childhood education for more than thirty years; she is an adjunct professor at a two-year college in the Early Childhood Department and a child care director. Leaving Trinidad and moving to the United States was a difficult decision, but it was intentional. She was in pursuit of higher education, but it was important to stay connected with family and help her children understand the dynamics of family relationships. She has since completed the doctoral program and continues to work in early childhood education. Her mother did not live to see her complete her course of studies, but the frequent visits during summer time left beautiful memories in the minds of her two children.

I love to watch my granny cook; she writes her recipes in a book.

I love the way my granny talks when she takes us for a walk.

My granny is the best!

I love to watch my granny pray; she talks to God in a special way.

My granny is the best!

I love to watch my granny sleep when inside her room we quietly creep.

My granny is the best!

I love to watch my granny knit — hats and booties, scarves and bits.

My granny is the best!
