My Path to Freedom and Life in the U.S.A.
I was born to Urška (Stenovec) and Janez Zupan on Valentine’s Day 1930, in the industrial town of Jesenice, nestled in a narrow valley in the northwestern part of Slovenia, Yugoslavia. Our family consisted of two older sisters, Milka (born 1923) and Vera (1927), and three younger siblings, brother Jože (1934), sister Marija (1935), and brother Riko (1941). One more child was stillborn in 1948.
