About the Author

David Linden is head of the neuroimaging/human behavioural genetics theme group in the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics and Professor of Translational Neuroscience at Cardiff University (since 2011). He is also Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist/ Neuropsychiatrist at Cardiff and Vale UHB. He has 20 years of experience in neuroscience and psychiatric research, using mainly non-invasive techniques of neuroimaging and neurophysiology and behavioural/psychometric methods.

Description: Neuroimaging has led to significant advances in the understanding of brain-behavior relationships in psychiatry. The use of brain imaging has been used primarily to rule out overt etiologies of psychopathology. However, psychopathology is ostensibly the result of abnormal functioning large-scale neuronal networks, so that any psychopathology could also be due to the consequence of overt brain pathology. Written by an expert in the field, this excellent book, which is an introduction to the methods of neuroimaging and neurophysiology, describes their indications and reviews the contribution of neuroimaging to the understanding of disease mechanisms in the development of new therapies.
Purpose: The purpose of the book, according to the author, is to "serve as a useful guide to the methods and applications of neuroimaging and neurophysiology for trainees and practitioners in psychiatry and other mental health professions as well as for advanced students and researchers in clinical neuroimaging." The author has produced an excellent learning tool.
Audience: The intended audience, as noted above, is trainees and practitioners in psychiatry as well as other mental health professionals.
