As Beverly's father began to help this pastor build his own division of "Spiritual Union Church Of Christ (SUCC)," Beverly became subject to sexual abuse that was ignored and renounced by her father... at the hands of the pastor. Throughout her entire childhood, God and the Church were used as tools of oppression to take total control of her father's assets, and his life, but moreover, to sexually abuse and break young Beverly. The story of a woman escaped from a grassroots Bible cult, Nobody's Child follows the life of Beverly James from sexually abused, unwanted child, to escaped, confident single mother in search and pursuit of her life's goals.

In Nobody's Child, Beverly James tells the story of a girl raised in a dysfunctional family that belongs to a dysfunctional church. But so abusive were the injustices and pains inflicted on her and her family, that she must disclaim the story as "mere fiction." And Beverly James is, by necessity, just a pseudonym. But make no mistake, this is a true story. Only the names have been changed. The names of family members, the name of the abusive pastor, the name of the all-too-large, all-too-influential cult that calls itself a church. But this is not a story told for shock value. Nor does its author wallow in self-pity, which she would have every right to if she so chose. Instead, she has written an inspiring, albeit horrifying, story. Inspiring because it says that no matter what adversity one faces - even if that adversity is extended across an entire family and nearly an entire lifetime - one can have the courage to confront the adversity and rise above it...and have the courage to write about it. Horrifying because it reveals how a family can all-too-easily lose its moral compass when love is undermined by neglect and callousness. And it only takes a charismatic but dominating pastor to completely topple the family's already-rotting moral foundation.
