SHELBY KNUDSEN has been a member of the all-female band Wild Honey for more than a decade. Her first novel, Mountain Girl, was an intense thriller about forbidden love and captivity. Her second novel, One Night Only, is an intimately told story that highlights the intersection or art and fame. She lives in Fernie, B.C. with her husband and daughters.

Each song had a lyric or a vibe that resonated for me with what was going on in the chapter. "I know, as an audience member, there's a certain thing that's going on for me during this ritual, anticipation, yes, but the instrument, the instrument being prepared, being perfected, being tuned, put into alignment, or allegiance and/or harmony with some kind of higher order in the world, a better order, somehow, with the wavelengths of all that is and all that can be good in the world... then, and this is my little brainstorm, so please forgive... in the build up of tension which has arisen during the tuning, then, in the guitar being donned, being "put on," between that and that first chord, the beginning of that first song, which is flight, which represents possibility and transcendence, in that gap, in that silence, oh I don't know Shelby, there is a kind of magic, the emergence of the possibilities which exist between instrument, player, and the audience member."
