Overnight Sensation is exciting!! This is about Jonah and his friends. Normal teens in high school. Bad social skills, crushing on girls, wishing for popularity. Life gets a little crazy when their made up band has an accidental hit on the radio. They allow the radio station to continue to play the song but now everyone wants to know who is behind the band HitStreak. The next thing you know there are girls, popularity, paparazzi, media and music moguls trying to get to them. How long can they keep this up? We follow these teens go through their ups and downs going through high school and becoming famous. They learn a few life lessons along the way. Just when they think they have it all figured out some other curveball is thrown at the boys. It is a very funny read and makes me a little nostalgic about my high school years. It’s a light and laugh out loud funny read. Home Run for Overnight Sensation!

With the summary and the cover it's hard not to mention that this story does have some predictability to it. You know what's going to happen in the end. It's the events leading up to it that counts. There is a lot of time that passes in this story. For the majority of the first half of the book it's dialogue, the going back and forth of "should we" and "what are we doing" The boys take several actions as most young boys do with not much thought to the act. But then the guilt and turmoil of what the consequences will be when their parents find out. When the decisions are made, the plan is in action, the story builds in anticipation. Although our main characters are teen boys. I couldn't help but feel that the story reads more like a memoir. Reminiscing of the best time of their youth and what could have been. Perhaps as a reader I was playing off this idea because technically Jonah's father is vicariously living through him. Perhaps this story is one of "What if's" and fly by the seat of your pants while you can.

Fifteen year old Jonah is about to embark on the greatest journey of his young life. Jonah finds out that his dad used to be in a band once upon a time…and was actually pretty awesome. So when his dad and his old band mates get together and produce a song…Jonah sends it to his buddies to see what they think. One of the boys sends it to a local radio station which in turns sets everything into motion. And boy what a crazy ride these kids are on. I wasn't sure how I would feel about Overnight Sensation when I first started reading it. The main character is a fifteen year old boy named Jonah. That is where my problem usually would be. I don't do well with stories whose main POV is a young boy. But gosh, Eisenberg did a really good job. I was surprised by how well he captured that age and he had the dialogue between characters just right. The banter between the boys is hilarious. I think I liked Jess and Jonah the best. But each of the boys brings something different and fun to the story. This book is perfect for any reader…boy or girl…young or old. I would definitely let my daughters read this one if they wanted to. And it is one I recommend to any music lover. The author writes a story that is full of heart and I just know you are going to enjoy it. Pick up Overnight Sensation and you will know what I mean. Enjoy!

Overnight Sensation was easily a light and funny read that I definitely enjoyed. I burst out laughing about half the time. The characters were awesome and developed quite nicely throughout the book, even the school bully turned out to be rather cool. The plot was super fast, but extremely entertaining. I had fun seeing how the band would face the challenge before them. Half of them sounded like they were having the time of their lives (and they probably were), but poor Jonah was close to cracking. Fifteen year-old, 'in way over his head', (fake) rock star Jonah (Joman) Levine is going to be able to tell his children the story of a lifetime. He's a cool kid. I like him, because he's the most logical one of the band. He's got nice and very realistic characteristics that're fitting for a teenage boy. His friendly personality made him easily likable. But the one thing that got to me was his manner of not standing up to his bullies. Sure, he befriended one, but that's because he became famous. His character development didn't extend over that facing-the-bully line. I got a little annoyed over his 'I'll just nod and take the beating'. No kid! That's totally not the answer. His friends, band-mates, took part in getting this problem started. There're three of them: Kyle, Bart, and Jess (Teffy). All of them were full of witty comebacks and devious plans. I loved how they stood up for each other, it's definitely the sort of friendship that could last a long time, but the trouble they get into is getting shortening that time span. The plot was great. The story isn't so original, but I had an awesome time reading through it. It's fast, funny, and full of 'what will happen next?' moments. But there was a downfall: Not much of a setting. I don't know much of what the characters looked like or what the surroundings looked like. Most of the book was straight dialogue, and sometimes the settings changed so abruptly that I didn't realize it until I ended up confused and I had to go back to see where I got lost. There were also some grammatical and spelling mistakes here and there, but the overall story was greatly fascinating. I had a wonderful time reading Overnight Sensation. It's hilarious and fun to a full extent. I highly recommend it to anyone who would like a light and enjoyable read!

A fun and entertaining rock n roll ride! (I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my review) Overnight Sensation is a fun ride through one teens Rock n' Roll dream. Hal has written an entertaining, easy to read young adult novel. This somewhat unbelievable chain of events will instantly intrigue you. I became wrapped up in Jonah's story and was eager to see how things would play out. Hal is a talented writer and I enjoyed his light-hearted and comical writing style. There was quite a few times where the Hitstreak antics had me laughing out loud. This book begins with a snippet of the end, which helps to build not only the suspense but also the tension. As you start to see the boy's situation unravel at the seams, knowing where they end up ahead of time really ups the amount of tension the reader experiences. From start to finish, Overnight Sensation is an intense and imaginative ride. The characters are real and relatable for young adults. Although this book is aimed more for teen boys, it is easily enjoyable for any age. Jonah is a great main character and his family is awesome. How cool would it be to have a rock star dad! Gozzy was by far my favorite character! Turning the school bully into a real and sensitive band mate was a great touch to the story. Gozzy's quirky and brash personality kept things interesting. And his mom, hilarious! There are a few twists to this story that you won't see coming. Over all, Overnight Sensation is definitely worth a read! If you have a love for music you will definitely be into this story!
