About the Author

Paul Vickers ("Vick") Ridley-Tree (b. September 15, 1940, Spokane) is the son of entrepreneur Paul Herbert Ridley-Tree and violinist Roberta Liming Ridley. Raised in Southern California and Mexico City, he grew up helping build his family’s Topanga Canyon home, tending gardens, and observing his father’s business. After graduating from Rexford College Prep (1959), he earned a BA (UCLA) and MA (SFSU) in anthropology, writing his thesis on Bolivia’s Colla tribe based on his Peace Corps service.

A real estate investor since 1970, Vick restored historic homes in San Francisco and Davenport, milled lumber, and built a house in Big Basin, California, where he now resides. Father to three daughters and three grandchildren, he balances life between San Francisco and the Santa Cruz Mountains.
