If you liked the witty banter of Nick and Nora Charles in the Thin Man movies, you will love Planted, the first in CT Collier's Penningtons Investigate series. Set in a small Upstate New York college town, the story begins with a bang (literally) when Kyle and Lyssa Pennington discover that someone has buried a gun in their rose garden. I enjoyed the smart dialogue and numerous plot twists in this story. If you are looking for a fast paced and intelligent story, you need look no further.

How refreshing to read a novel with a less-than-perfect heroine, who freely admits to her weaknesses and doggedly insists on remedying them. Of course, she is married to a gorgeous, wealthy, witty Brit, which does compensate for a multitude of problems, but even so, I admire Lyssa, Planted's heroine. And I thoroughly enjoyed Collier's well-plotted campus mystery. Her descriptions of the Finger Lakes area are spot on, although Very nice read!

Believable plot. Liked the characters. Read it in one sitting.

This is a mystery that epitomizes what is meant by a cozy--a small village, two smart, curious academics, and almost everyone in the neighborhood has motive to have buried a gun in the Pennington's garden. The number of suspects and the cleverness of the guilty are no match for Lyssa and Kyle Pennington's detecting skills. You'll love the twists and turns in the plot and look forward to the next case in the Pennington investigations. I give it five stars.
