About the Author

Seabury Quinn (1889-1969) was an American lawyer and writer, well known for creating the fictional paranormal detective Jules de Grandin. Born in Washington, D.C., Quinn graduated from law school and passed the bar in 1910; he became an editor after World War I. Quinn began writing in 1917 and introduced the de Grandin character in 1925. While writing was an important aspect of his life (he wrote more than 500 short stories), Quinn was primarily a lawyer specializing in legal aspects of the mortuary industry. He also published under the pseudonym Jerome Burke.
