About the Author

Marie Howe has written two books of poetry, The Good Thief, chosen for the National Poetry Series, and What the Living Do, named one of the five best books of poetry published in l997 by Publishers Weekly. She has also co-edited, with Michael Klein, In the Company of My Solitude: American Writing from the AIDS Pandemic. Her poems have appeared in The Atlantic, The New Yorker, Agni, Harvard Review, and New England Review, among others. She was a fellow at the Bunting Institute and a recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Massachusetts Artists Foundation, as well as the I.B. Lavan Younger Poet Prize from the Academy of American Poets. She teaches in the writing program at Sarah Lawrence College.

Christopher Tilghman is the author of the novels Mason's Retreat and Roads of the Heart, and the story collections The Way People Run and In a Father's Place. He teaches at the University of Virginia.
