Poetry Volume 1: Rays of Light, Edge of Darkness - 50 Contemporary Haiku Poems
In his first published volume of contemporary haiku poems, Rays of Light, Edge of Darkness, Stephen J. Bergstrom reveals two opposing paths -- technology and nature -- that mesh within humanity to produce very different ends.

As you contemplate the haikus, you will experience the stillness of the natural world, the joy, sorrow and intent of being human and the stealthy advance of an undeniable hostility.

Rays of Light, Edge of Darkness, begins:

About the Author

Stephen J. Bergstrom

Stephen J. Bergstrom was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, raised and schooled in the Chicago suburbs, lives in Taos, New Mexico, and is of Métis (French and Native American/Canadian Aboriginal) and Swedish heritage. He received his MFA in Creative Writing and has authored two volumes of flash fiction, a poetry volume of haiku, a full-length action-thriller screenplay, a 1,000-page novel, and non-fiction essays, interviews, and articles.

As a “two-spirited”, Stephen dips in and out of native and mainstream cultures, loves animals and reclaims wisdom.

He also explores and combines new genres. Always a reader -- thousands of novels and polemics, non-fiction and bios -- he eventually discovers graphic novels, web-based publishing and non-traditional storytelling.

Stephen currently has several short stories, more flash fiction and poetry, a screenplay, a graphic novel, a web series, and two full-length novels in process.

“Ideas arrive in all types and forms. In complete arcs, in snippets, in fragments, in characters, but most especially in real-time conflicts, behind veils, in those places in which hidden forces oppose nature and the natural ways.

And in those places, I set stories, anchor characters and seek to understand our times.”
