Powerlifting Basics, Texas-Style
Paul Kelso serves up a humorous and insightful account of effective basic training for powerlifters in an informative--and entertaining--common-sense approach. Beginners, intermediates, "raw," and single-ply lifters will benefit from the old school training information, including complete coverage of powerlifting basics, training for size and strength, forming a club, contest training--and living to tell about it. You'll laugh while you learn with this "training novel" about the adventures of Lope Delk and the Wampus Cats college club as they get ready for their first meet; and find out about the Stretchmark Machine, the Beer Mine, Kelso's Laws, and the Seven Deadly Sins of training. IRONMAN magazine called it "a true classic" and Powerlifting USA deemed it "the ultimate blend of hilarity and common sense in strength training."

About the Author

Paul Kelso, of Dallas, Texas, combined his gift for writing with his interest in strength training, writing over fifty training articles and contest reports for Powerlifting USA magazine since 1984. As a youth, Paul was involved in Olympic-style weightlifting and amateur wrestling. In1981, he developed a course on the shrug principle, which became The Shrug System in 1993 and Kelso's Shrug Book in 2002; he also helped to popularize the Gerard Trap Bar. Published in 1996, the unique 'training novel' Powerlifting Basicis, Texas-Style presents basic powerlifting methods as well as abbreviated routines. A literature major and english teacher, Paul is known for writing with wit and wisdom and clarity. He is very funny.
