Praetorian Guard
The Praetorian Guard, as in the times of Caesar and the Roman Empire, are modern day soldiers, like their namesakes, who protect and serve. Clad not in the black armor of the Romans, but in the black cloak of mortal secrecy, these contemporary militants operate under the Commission of La Cosa Nostra. Using cunning and expert military genius, the Guard functions with a lethal strategy for maintaining order and security among the leaders of the mafia families. The Guard serves as their private army so that these supreme commanders of the notorious underworld can conduct mafia business.
Lead by the man known as “Savior,” these deadly guardsmen mediate disputes between capos, act as security forces when capos require meetings on “neutral” ground to discuss their respective complaints, carry out executions of those unfortunate enough to violate the Laws of the Commission or the Family and and terminate any threats to the way of life to which they have all sworn allegiance.
From the opening pages, this story will grip the reader in energy, creativity and precision logistics, when the New York crime boss enlists the Praetorians to retrieve three hundred kilograms of pure heroin that Drug Enforcement Administration agents intercepted in Miami, with the aid of a confidential informant.
A unique aspect to this story is the leader, Savior, as he orchestrates and carries out the objectives in strict military fashion, while following a personal moral regimen of ancient warriors. Absent any malice or sadism, these elite soldiers routinely risk their lives and futures from a sense of warrior virtue and military code.
The Chicago Police Department and feds investigate the activities of this secret society, and it is a gorgeous green-eyed policewoman, Rachael, who weaves her own warrior charms on Savior. As the Praetorians terminate informants and warring capos, the personal relationship of the Guard leader and the cop investigating his Praetorians creates an exciting sub-plot of its own. Will the Praetorians survive? Will the feds find them? Will Rachael discover the true identity of her lover? This is a thrilling, suspenseful read to the very end and the reader will debate, who are the real heroes and villains? Who will you choose?
