"Dark, perverse, and unbearably erotic, Pretty When You Cry is Skye Warren at her gritty best." - Anna Zaires, USA Today bestselling author of Twist Me

A new dark romance novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Wanderlust...

I came from a place of dirt floors and holy scriptures. They told me the world outside was full of sin, and the first night I escape, I find out it's true. Ivan saves me, but he does more than that. He takes me. He makes me his own girl.

My conditioning runs too deep. Ivan sees what I am.

That's the thing about showing a mouse to a cat. He wants to play. And it's terrifying, even for me. Because the only thing darker than my past is his.

Author's Note: Pretty When You Cry is a STANDALONE dark romance novel. It's set in the sexy Stripped series world but can be read alone. Not intended for those uncomfortable with the subject matter or under eighteen.

Praise for Pretty When You Cry:

"5 deliciously dark stars! I love how dark and twisted this book is. It's so dirty and dark and well it's so me!!!" – Alpha Book Club

"Skye Warren you keep leaving me speechless and my mind blank with the worst book hangover ever." – Bibliophile Wonderland Reviews

"When you sit down to write a review and get chills, that's when you know a story is going to stay with you... Gritty, raw, powerful and most of all beautiful." – The Book Sirens

"The writing is so incredibly fluid, the characters so intriguing, and the story so captivating. If I could give this book more than five stars, I would. It's as emotional as it is sexy, and beautiful as it is dark. Absolutely flawless." – Sammy, Just Let Me Read

A tale of courage, passion, and raw emotion, this book hooked me from the very first page, sinking it's teeth in and never letting go. Intense and suspenseful, I needed to know everything there was to know about Candy - from her time at Harmony Hills, to why she ran away, and then the erotic intrigue that was her relationship with Ivan. There was so much depth to Candy's character. Caught between her love for the man who saved her, to her need to break free, while trying to let go of everything that had been instilled in her as a child, her life was a emotional rollercoaster. There was plenty of chemistry between Candy and Ivan. They were the kind of couple that you just wished and prayed would eventually let go of everything that plagued them, to find the happiness they so deserved. It was touch and go for a while, and with Candy looking for a way out, her need to be her own person, I wasn't sure if it would ever happen. She was determined and I was happy for her, but my heart also ached a little because I needed to see them together. Ivan showed his true heart and soul at the end. Behind the stubborn, controlling, somewhat egotistical, malevolent man, was a sweet, caring person who'd lived his own horror story, and I think he saw a lot of himself in Candy. That is why, in the beginning, he wanted to protect her so much, he'd rather see her trapped by his power than give her any over his own heart. This book was heartrending as much as it was heartwarming. I loved it but I wish I had been able to connect with the characters a bit more. Other than that, it was superb.

I absolutely looooved Prisoner and it automatically put Skye Warren into my "I'll pretty much read anything this author writes" column, so it wasn't even a question that I wanted to read Pretty When You Cry! I knew I would be in for a great read and this book did not let me down. It was excellent and I can't wait to read the other books in the Stripped series! There were times when I really did not like Ivan and times when he melted my heart. He's not an easy hero to love and I'm not even one hundred percent certain that I can say that I loved him but I didn't hate him and he had his moments where I did like him. Even though we don't get Ivan's point of view, it wasn't hard to see that he cared about Candace even when he was being his cold self and if there ever was a time when I loved him, it would've been when he finally stopped fighting what he felt for her. He's not the best guy in the world, but he does have a good heart when it comes to Candace and it's worth it to see. I loved Candace as the heroine! It might not always seem like it, but she's brave and strong and a fighter. She's sassy, rebellious, smart, and determined, but she's also sweet and innocent sometimes. Candace is just awesome and I wouldn't have wanted her to be any different than she was! Pretty When You Cry is a fast read but it will still pull you in and make you pay attention. It had me gasping and covering my face with my hands and it kept me on the edge of my seat. It will shock you, worry you, and while it will make your heart hurt at times, it will also melt it and make you smile. I really did enjoy reading it and I'm so excited for the next book! Pretty When You Cry is the third book in the Stripped series but it is a standalone, it's only told from Candace's POV, and Candace and Ivan are living their happily-ever-after! ~ Sonja, 4 Stars

Different kind of "love" story.

Dark, sexy and twisted. It keeps you in knots and on edge. This is Candy’s story (and Ivan’s), and it reveals the woman underneath the stripper heels and body glitter. Candy and Ivan’s relationship is twisted and made me a little uncomfortable at times. That is kind of the point with dark romances, isn’t it? Their kink just isn’t my kink. The similarity between Ivan and what Candy is running from is acknowledged and deftly handled using Candy’s own thoughts and observations. Skye Warren is such a pretty writer--there are so many quote-worthy passages. Oh, and Honor, Lola and Candy aren't the only ones who grow and blossom in this series. The Grand theater gets her own hard love and an amazing transformation. I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

This was a great story. Ivan and Candy are characters that have caught my attention from the beginning of this series. I read this book in one sitting. The story starts off several years before even the first book in the series. Candace is a young 16 year old girl on the streets of Tanglewood. She is about to be mugged or more likely raped by a group of guys when a mysterious guy in an impeccable suit shows up and chases the other guys away. He then takes her back to The Grand, his strip club. He takes her down to his basement office. Here she begs to stay. She wants to be one of the strippers like she saw on the stage. Candace grew up in Harmony Hills. It is a cult compound. When Leader Allen started showing interest in her, her mother sent her away on her own. This cult teaches that women are evil and lead men into temptation. The girls are not taught to read or write. They have barely any schooling. Ivan is not a good man. He is ruthless. Everyone is scared of him. Everyone but Candace. I think that is because he shows her compassion. He takes her in and gives her a home and tutors. Then when she begs and finally is of age, she eventually becomes one of his best strippers in his club. Their romance is a difficult one. They both have had a really tough past. It makes their ability to trust and love very hard for both of them. They had a weird relationship for a long time, but no sex until Candace insist on leaving. Ivan is not able to let her go. Ivan is no prince charming, but he is what Candy needs. He was there when she needed him most. I would've liked to have learned more about Ivan's back story. We do learn some, but I would like to know more about this difficult to read and scary man. He is quite the alpha male and has a dominant streak a mile wide. He does show affection in his own way. You can read this book without having read the previous books in the series, but those are great books as well. I also think it was good addition to have the character build of Ivan and Candy, since they have been major secondary characters from book one. I've really enjoyed this series from the beginning and this is another great addition. **Book was provided to me by the author. This review is my opinion and was not requested or provoked in anyway by the author.

When you sit down to write a review and get chills, that's when you know a story is going to stay with you. This book is about Candy and Ivan. They were introduced earlier in this series and have been an enigma throughout. I was thrilled to finally read their story, and it was so worth the wait. Candy is all flash and glamour and everyone at The Grand, the place where she is a stripper, looks up to her. Even though she is the youngest girl there, she commands their respect. And being Ivan's right hand girl helps. But, what they don't see is the scared little girl beneath all of her glamour and bravado. Ivan has been Candy's protector for 3 years, he found her lost and alone wearing nothing but a shift dress, tattered shoes and only $20.00 to her name. He takes her in, feeds her, educates her, and then employees her at The Grand, he basically becomes the father she never had. Their relationship is complicated to say the least, because she doesn't want to just be his little girl. Ivan and Candy have been dancing around a relationship, she wants more, he doesn't know how to give it to her. She doesn't know how much more she can take, and when her past comes back to haunt her, she breaks under the strain and runs for her life. When Ivan is faced with losing Candy, his cold demeanor starts to crack. The angst between these two is like a guitar string being tightened, you are just waiting for the snap! Getting to know more about Ivan is my favorite thing about this story. There is so much more to this cold, brusque, unmovable mountain of a man. He is all hard edges, almost statue like in his aloofness. But, somehow Candy is able to break through all of that, and what is revealed will shock you and make you swoon. Ivan and Candy's love story isn't all roses and sunshine wrapped up in ribbons and bows. They fight so hard for each other and against each other. They tear their hearts out and are left tattered on the floor before it's all over. Gritty, raw, powerful and most of all beautiful. Skye Warren never fails to amaze me, she has a unique way of letting the reader see the beauty in the ugliness of it all. She lets you walk in the characters shoes, or in this case stiletto's, and that's a hard thing to accomplish when the characters choose to live on the fringe of society. Even the most harsh characters you end up falling in love with by the end of the book! This whole series has been absolutely amazing, and if you haven't started reading it yet, what are you waiting for?

I loved reading about Candy and Ivan!!! This book was well worth the wait with all sorts of emotions going through me. After reading the previous books in the Stripped series I jumped right back in with both feet and I was carried away by the story!! I was annoyed when I had to stop reading in order to go to bed! I definitely don't think of Ivan as my new BBF, he's too intense for me, but he is definitely interesting!! If you have read the previous books in the Stripped series then you are just as addicted as I am and you don't need me to recommend this book, but I'm going to anyways. Go buy this book and become entangled in the dark, erotic, sad, and complex story of Ivan and Candy!! I couldn't wait to read this book, but now I'm sad it's over, and I look forward to the next book!! It's hard to choose what my favorite lines are in the whole book but I think these lines sum up Candy and Ivan's relationship perfectly. "The vines that wrap around me, their thorns pressing in, making me bleed.Being with Ivan doesn't free me from the vines. He doesn't make the pain go away. He makes me want more."

“I’m dangling off a cliff, and I’ll keep scrabbling at loose rocks on the way down. That’s all he can offer me: loose rocks. I know it’s going to hurt at the bottom–God, it will hurt. But I can’t keep grasping for him. I have to fall.” Wow! Talk about a book that takes you out of your comfort zone!! This book has definitely done this for me. I’m a pretty open-minded reader and have read my fair share of dark reads, but this one….I wasn’t prepared for this one. Pretty When You Cry really takes you for a walk on the dark side… Pretty When You Cry is dark. It’s intense. It’s kinky. It’s so twisted. It’s one of those books where you’re thinking to yourself, “What on earth have I gotten myself into?”, but you can’t look away. It’s got you hooked and even though it’s not your normal read, you find yourself unable to put it down. You have to know what happens next. I have to say that this isn’t your average dark romance. There are no hearts and flowers here. There is no knight in shining armor racing to save the day. What you get are two broken, flawed people. The love and “relationship” that they share is not for everyone, but what they have works for them. These quotes, I think pretty much sum up Ivan and Candy’s story: “That’s how we are together–depraved and beautiful.” or “We are made of the same thing, he and I. Of sin and hope, of power and pleasure. We were made to dream.” Pretty When You Cry was well-written, intriguing and definitely captivating. This is my first book, by this author and I’m sure it will not be my last. If you are a fan of the darker side of dark romances, I definitely recommend checking this one out! *I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*
