Prime Interface: A Consortium Universe Novel
First Contact...of a different kind.
Civilizations come and civilizations go, but the Consortium of Sentient Species has been around for 60 million years. They are the largest civilization that they are aware of. They encompass 2,300 sentient species and inhabit roughly 1,500 galaxies and star clusters. Earth is fortunate to be inside their territory.
The Consortium takes primitive sentient species, like humans, under their wing, and guides them to maturity. They begin their mission thousands of years pre-contact, monitoring and evaluating the species as it slowly progresses from the Stone Age to the fledgling Space Age. Once contact is established, they remain with the race, teaching them and slowly transferring technology. The ambassador from the Consortium helps guide a sentient species through the star-faring colonization phase, all the way to full social, technological and emotional maturity. Most races, thus guided, qualify for full membership in the Consortium.
The price for all this interventiona small tariff, a percentage of the gross cultural and domestic trade exchange with other speciesfor an equivalent period of time. This way the program pays for itself, and the Consortium ambassador can thus become quite affluentif they are talented and industrious for several millennia.

In Earths case, the Sentient Intelligence (S.I.) charged with contacting and guiding humanity is found to be asleep on the jobliterally.

Dr. David Rasmussen is a professional graduate student, always collecting degrees, but never using them. His girlfriend, Dr. Lisa Zemanov is a brilliant postdoctoral mathematician, working on a classified NSA grant. They are both happy with their lives. David has no intention of amounting to anything, he just wants to party, fly his flight simulator and get into Lisas pantsnot necessarily in that order.
Davids new faculty advisor, Dr. James Madsen, has other plans for him. Dr. Madsen, a well-known seismologist, coerces David and Lisa into working for him, to prove his pet theory. While gathering data, they discover an astounding seismic anomaly. Investigating that anomaly propels David and Lisa into a world of intrigue and adventure. The anomaly leads them to ancient Alien artifacts buried deep under the Greenland ice sheet.
A deadly race ensues to obtain the artifacts and unlock their secrets.
Experimenting with the artifacts, they inadvertently awaken the powerful Alien entity that had been charged with guiding mankind to maturity. The entity has overslept and must now scramble to regain control of a rapidly deteriorating world.
While a team of humans examine the alien artifacts, the Alien begins examining them, and manipulating their lives. Evaluating each one, he has to decide which human has the right stuff. Only one human will become the Prime Interface between Earth and the vast intergalactic civilization the Alien represents.

Along the journey, David and Lisa must learn many hard lessons about friendship and betrayal;
about compassion and love;
about maturity and understanding:
about altruism, responsibility and sacrifice.

Volume Two Chrysalis Divide - documents the formation and growth of the organization formed to repair and guide mankind forward, while weeding out dangerous enemies.
The S.I. informs the organization that the Consortium has gifted humanity a fully terraformed planet and a Faster Then Light (FTL) colony ship to reach it. Man must retrieve the colony ship and mount a mission to colonize the planet.

About the Author

Samuel Asil is a retired physician living in the Intermountain West with his two grand dogs.

Having teethed on the masters of Science Fiction he always wanted to contribute something to the genre. A series that is worthy of being read, enjoyed, and that provides inspiration to the next generation.

An incurable romantic, he hates bad endings. Life has enough of these alreadythey arent fun when you have to live them, why seek them out in your choice of entertainment.
If he were to rewrite Romeo and Juliet, they would have faked their own deaths, escaped to the new world, discovered the fountain of youth, and lived happily ever after.

Recreational pursuits include exploring the Yellowstone ecosystem, wilderness camping, hiking, Nordic and alpine skiing, wildlife and nature photography, and traveling.
Hobbies include amateur radio (N7ODK), designing and building electronic projects, installing and troubleshooting sound systems, flying X-plane, and reading a broad range of scientific literature.
