About the Author

John Walsh, P.A. is a Physician Assistant who has provided clinical care for people with diabetes for over 40 years in a wide variety of clinical settings, including private practice, HMO, and university settings. He has pumped for 42 years, worn almost every insulin pump released, and started thousands of people on pumps and AID systems. Mr. Walsh has presented various diabetes topics to clinicians, diabetes educators, and people with diabetes worldwide. His influence in the field is significant, as he has helped develop many of the theories and designs for the dose-related features in today’s and tomorrow’s pumps and devices. He is an authority on AID systems, insulin pumps, diabetes devices, infusion sets, and intensive management. He sees patients as a Diabetes Clinical Specialist at Advanced Metabolic Care and Research in Escondido, CA.


Ruth Roberts, M.A. is CEO of Diabetes Services, Inc., Diabetes Mall, and Torrey Pines Press and a widely-read medical writer and editor. She has served as a publisher, webstore and website administrator, corporate training administrator, technical writer, and instructional designer for over forty years in San Diego. She has co-authored several books on diabetes, edited a weekly online newsletter, “Diabetes This Week,” and written numerous articles on diabetes.


Timothy Bailey, M.D., F.A.C.E., F.A.C.P. is board-certified in endocrinology and metabolism and is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine. Since 1990, Tim has been President of Advanced Metabolic Care and Research, specializing in diabetes and other endocrine disorders.
