Quicklets: Learn More. Read Less.

Think and Grow Rich is one of the most popular personal-success books ever written. The book is the condensed version of Napoleon Hills master work, titled The Law of Success.

Since its release in 1937, Think and Grow Rich has sold over 70 million copies and has been translated into over 190 different languages.

During an interview between Andrew Carnegie and Hill, Carnegie proposed that Hill should outline the key principles of success and simplify it into a formula that the ordinary person could understand.

Hill accepted Carnegies proposal, and over the course of the next 20 years, he interviewed some of the most successful people of his time, including: Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, John D. Rockefeller, Alexander Graham Bell, Charles M. Schwab, and many more. The interviews and the knowledge that Hill gained from them helped him form the basis for Think and Grow Rich.

BOOK EXCERPT FROM CHAPTER 2 OF THE QUICKLET ON THINK AND GROW RICH

Edwin C. Barnes desire to become the associate of Thomas Edisons may have started out as a wish, but it became a burning desire. Barnes succeeded because he chose a definite goal and gave it all of his energy. And, no matter what happened, he was going to realize his desire, or die trying.

Hill instructs that you must focus solely on your purpose and leave yourself with no other option but to achieve that purpose. Further, he points out that wishing can never bring success. Success only comes to those who desire it so much that it becomes an obsession.

Hill gives six steps to turning the desire for wealth into a reality. #1 First Determine the exact amount of money you desire. Be specific. #2 Second Decide what you will give in return for the money you desire. (A product, service, etc.) #3 Third Set a specific date for when you intend to acquire the money. #4 Fourth Create a definite plan for acquiring the wealth you desire and put that plan into motion immediately. #5 Fifth Write out a clear statement that contains the first four steps. #6 Sixth Read the statement out loud twice a day. Once before going to bed and once when you wake up. Its important that you truly see and feel yourself already in the possession of the money you desire.

To further illustrate how a burning desire can turn into success, Hill tells the story of his own son:

Hills son was born without ears and the doctor said that he would never be able to hear or speak. Hill didnt believe the doctor and made it his burning desire that his son should hear and speak normally.

Hill soon discovered that his son could hear him if he spoke with his lips touching the back of the boys head. Hill would constantly create and tell his son stories that would give the boy a burning desire to hear and speak correctly. That desire to hear and speak eventually turned into a reality. When his son was in his last year of college, he came into the possession of a hearing device. When he put it on, he heard clearly for the very first time.
