This book will be of value to radiation oncology residents and clinicians alike. Residents assessing what they have learned on a clinical service or in preparation for boards will find this book helpful. Likewise, with the shift in maintenance of certification from an every 10-year exam to ongoing clinical assessment evaluations, the book appears to be ideally suited in format to this new knowledge assessment approach. The authors are well respected authorities and contributors include many residents and junior attending physicians.

Many residents and clinicians will find a format such as this a good complement to other books which provide more narrative reviews of the subject."

Features: The book is divided into 16 sections organized by treatment site or topic. The question-and-answer format is well suited for self assessment and exam preparation. By its nature, such a format can be hit or miss, but the authors in general have done an excellent job covering pertinent issues related to each topic. A limitation of such an approach is the succinct commentary for each question that on occasion doesn't fully address the scope of the supporting literature. At times answers are provided that, while supported by the literature, do not account for a range of answers that could be considered acceptable.
Assessment: Many residents and clinicians will find a format such as this a good complement to other books which provide more narrative reviews of the subject.
