Overview

Room Repurposing: A Purposeful Home, a Purposeful Life explores room design through the lifestyle and personal interests of you, the homeowner. It breaks the conventions of living room, dining room, and family room to create spaces that make sense at an individual level. If your home really is your arena for living then it should serve to promote your talents, display your wares and function to our needs.
This isn't the work of an architect; it's the work of a DIYer. This ebook guides purposeful decision-making when it comes to furnishing and accessorizing. As an upcycler, Cristin Frank promotes the use of existing and easy to find furniture for reuse in defined spaces.
Room Repurposing will take you on an inspirational tour of typical rooms and present different ideas on how that room can be transformed to fit your different needs, goals and values.

According to the National Association of Home Builders, the average size of new homes built in the US is 2,700 square feet. That's almost double what it was forty years ago. Since we cannot attribute the swell in square footage to an increase in family size, we can comfortably surmise that we simply have superfluous space. Now, besides the extra resources needed to support spacious homes, let's consider the positive opportunities a hefty home size has to offer.

When purposely planned, our homes become our arena for living at all stages of life. They display our interests and creations, host our friends and provide tranquility from the outside world. Our homes hold the potential to tell the story of our lifestyle. All homes are built around the commonalities of life - like eating, sleeping and using the bathroom; it's the remaining space that caters to our habits, personalities, age-appropriate interests, resident composition and family values.
