Scout Finch este martora la intamplarile dramatice declansate intr-un orasel sudist atunci cand un barbat de culoare este acuzat ca a violat o femeie alba. Tatal naratoarei, Atticus, desemnat ca avocat al apararii, trebuie sa tina piept unor prejudecati pana atunci latente si, din acest moment, Scout si fratele ei, Jem, sunt atrasi intr-o succesiune rapida de evenimente care le depasesc intelegerea. Pe timpul procesului, oraselul decade treptat in grotesc si violenta, insa exista oameni care nu se lasa contaminati de setea generala de razbunare, iar Atticus Finch ramane reperul moral care ii ofera lui Scout, si totodata cititorilor, un punct de vedere empatic si echilibrat. Romanul a fost ecranizat in 1962, in regia lui Robert Mulligan, cu Gregory Peck, John Megna si Frank Overton in rolurile principale.

About the Author

Harper Lee won the Pulitzer Prize for her seminal novel To Kill a Mockingbird, about racial injustice in the South in the 1930s. Published in 1960, this widely loved book, still thought of as one of the most important books in American history, has been translated into more than 40 languages. Go Set a Watchman, her other novel, was published in 2015. Her many honors include the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which she was awarded in 2007. She was born in Monroeville, Alabama, in 1926, and died there in 2016.
