About the Author

Don Hilton spent a sunburned childhood on the east side of Conneaut Lake. He was lucky enough to realize his childhood dream of being “captain of a ship” by running the ferry boat Redwing and the stern wheeler Barbara J. for Conneaut Lake Cruises in the late 1970s.

Always interested in stories old people tell, he was inspired by a chance conversation in July of 2000 to begin collecting memories of Conneaut Lake’s Outing and Redwing ferry boats. This book represents a portion of that work.
