CHAPTER 1
Once upon a time in the land of Kazoo, A little girl named Sally was feeling very blue. A boy named Jim had pulled her hair. When she told the teacher, Ms. Zoodle, she didn't care.
In math class, her favorite subject was counting quarters and dimes,
But the teacher changed the lesson from counting to how to tell time.
Sally just knew she would never figure it out. As she walked out the door, she started to pout.
Sally wondered what she could do to make her day go better. She would go visit Nana ... in her favorite pink sweater, For Nana she knew was the best cheerer-upper, And maybe she would even make Sally's favorite supper.
Sally just loved Nana's roast and potatoes And a salad on the side with those little tomatoes. Sally rode her bike down the sidewalk To visit Nana and have a long talk.
"Why, Sally," Nana said. "What a surprise. Come inside. I just finished baking some pies. Why do you come here looking so down? Let's go for a walk and turn that frown upside down."
Nana and Sally started to walk down the path, And Sally told Nana about her bad day in math. Nana said, "When I get sad sometimes, I find Throwing a rock will take things off my mind."
Sally looked all about and hunted around For a rock just the right size lying on the ground. She picked up one and tossed it into the woods. Wow, she thought, that felt pretty good.
So she grabbed another and started to throw When the rock in her hand shouted out, "No!" Sally was so startled she dropped the rock And started to back away in shock.
"Please do not throw me under those tall trees. It is so dark in there I cannot even see. I'd rather stay out here in the bright light and sun, Where I can see all around and have much more fun."
Sally bent down and picked up the rock again. She saw her name on the rock and started to grin. The rock told Sally, "If you don't throw me away, I'll grant you one wish with which you can play."
